Exploration Builds..?

Look at the route to Statue of Liberty Nebula. I went to Eta Carinae and back 2 weeks ago and Statue was a point of interest for me on the way back. There is a patch of unscoopables, especially if you are traveling parallel to it instead of through it. I went over it :p That is probably what happened.

I love exploring in ships that are fun to fly.
I'm doing Distant Worlds in a clipper.

I weighed up taking this.

The cockpit view is fantastic, the ship is a hoot to fly down in the canyons, and it handles really well everywhere else. Eventually it was the tiny fuel scoop that turned me back to the Clipper - but if you are out to look at stuff not get somewhere in particular fast then it's a good call.

Oh, and it looks cooler than the other options in screenshots.

Asp is my favourite - it's big enough for full-self-reliance exploration gear (SRV, AFMU, etc) plus adventurer extras (cargo) and can even carry weapons and keep the range high.
I normally use the 6B fuel scoop though - the 6A scoop is ridiculous money for only a slight increase.

If an Asp is too expensive, the Diamondback is a much cheaper explorer build with Asp-like range, but you have to compromise on the adventurer-gear.

But that's nothing that hasn't been said already. So:

When it comes to astro-photography and selfies, I think the Diamondback looks fantastic in those shots. So there's that. :)

My builds, sorted by ship type, then by purpose. MCr stands for MegaCredits:

Asp Explorer

Diamondback Explorer

These are in the 33+ LY range. They are generalized Explorers without Cargo capacity. The Cartography and RTR vessels do not have an SRV capability. RTR vessels have smaller fuel tanks to elevate single jump range at the expense of, well, Reduced Total Range. They need more careful management to not be stranded due to inability to refuel because they are 4 max jumps instead of the normal 7.

It becomes surprisingly easy to manage once you are used to it, as I am sure you have found out. I'm currently exploring in a ship that can do two full range jumps, I kind of like the excitement that unscoopable stars bring :)
