Exploration codex entry

Hi folks have just started exploring and have a question regarding the codex entries...

When i enter a system and open the system map i see a "discovered by" after the bodies title i have managed to find a system that has a reported entry on the main star but not on the planets, can you still get an entry for the planets or does the person who discovered the main star first get an entry ?.....the planets have no name after them so i scanned them using the Detailed surface scanner.....is that enough or must i take other steps to get the codex entry ?

Is there some sort of confirmation message after the scan ?

or

Does the data need to be retruned and sold to get the entry ?

yes, you have to return to a station and turn in all exploration data for it to update. once updated any system/planet which you have scanned that did not have 'first scanned by'- 'first discovered by' will then have your name on it.

Hi folks have just started exploring and have a question regarding the codex entries...

Codex data and exploration data are treated differently, you need to keep that in mind, your codex discoveries are recorded in the Codex immediately and do not require you to turn in the data, for codex entries you get a reward at the station. Exploration data, that is the names on the stars and planets are recorded as exploration data and must be turned in to get the reward and, as mentioned, for it to show you as the first discoverer star, planet or moon. If you are the first person to discover a particular item in the region that goes into the Codex you should be able to check the Codex and see your name right away, the rest of the player base will also see it immediately. If you are the first person to discover a star this only shows up after you have turned in the data.

Keep in mind the Codex is bugged in some regions and for some life forms and will sometimes record a false positive for a first discovery, if it does record a false positive this will vanish when you log out and back in when the data is checked with the master Codex database on FDEV servers so don't be to disappointed if you seemingly make a first Codex discovery close to the bubble and it vanishes, most of these areas have been picked clean of first codex discoveries but there are still many available in the remoter parts of the galaxy.

Thx for the help guys....so......when i arrive at a star system out of jump i hit my discovery scanner is this enough or do i have to target each body individually ?

honking the system doesn't really do anything anymore. you have to use FSS to scan the system, and the map scanner to map it. Although you can just fly to each one and map it which will also mark it as scanned in the system as well.

Magic guys thx worked a treat managed to get 12 first discovered by and 13 mapped by entries on my first long range run...................sure is tiresome tho lol think i'll take a break before going on another run

It does really to an extent, honking the system will auto-discover all the stars in the system and tag them with your name when you sell the data. It will also find the number of bodies and types of bodies as you can see from the FSS tuner, that gives you the same reward that honking with the old ADS gave for honking a system, plus the stars tag. The FSS will also auto-discover any bodies close to the entry point. Then scanning with the FSS will give the same reward as you used to get flying up to bodies to let the DSS scan them. So you can still get a decent reward just jumping and honking but you just won't see the planets or get the first discovered tag, nor will anyone else until someone does scan them.

HEy guys, what about I scan some surface feature with the composition scanner, and get the screen message "new codex entry, badibah discovered", and it is now marked blue in my codex as "confirmed", but no rewards voucher whatsoever shows up in the transaction menue? I did get 2,500 for my second scan of a carbon dioxide ice fumarole on a different moon in the same system, but got nothing for the first ever ammonia ice fumarole I scanned, although I expected 50,000. How is that possible? May I have scanned one before, but did not get the reward nor the entry, because I was ganked before I could turn the data in, but now I still dont get the reward, because I´ve seen it before? Is that what happened, or am I not getting something, doing something wrong, or is that a bug?

You get 50k for the first object you scan in a region, 2,500 for each unique object you scan in a system once you have made the initial discovery for that region, nothing for finding further objects of the same type in a system. If you got 2,500 then you already had that discovery for that region. Codex discoveries and rewards are independent of UC discoveries and rewards so being destroyed won't matter.
