EDIT: OK guys it's time to triple our efforts. This is very likely to do with Aliens of some sort! The latest Starship One Galnet article has lots of tantalising hints as to why the ship went missing, directly speculating about aliens. We only have around 100,000 scans to go and only 8 hours to do it. Please, all explorers out in deep space who have a chance to make it, please do! You will be contributing to quite possibly a major plot change!!! Is that really less interesting than looking at the nearest procedurally generated nebula?

IMPORTANT NOTES:

The description is ambiguous. IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE FROM WITHIN 200ly - it can be from anywhere in the galaxy. I think UNDER 20ly is probably not going to count but that shouldn't be a problem
Proof:

(I can assure you I didn't get 1,480 scans from within 200ly
If you are saving data for Power Play, you don't need to. It won't help you rank up with the Powers and it will be a while before anyone can benefit from the 200% data value bonus.
There's only 8 hours left! Please come and contribute so we can get a decent bonus
If you feel annoyed that they only gave us 2 days consider this: 1) it looks like it's leading to a major plot change so it's not meant to be easy. 2) we only need 250,000 scans (we are up to 150,000 at time of writing), which is far less than the longer ones, comparatively so.

Yeah, very short CG. I can just imagine all you explorers rushing back from the black to get in on this.

Anyone want to bet if Tier 4 could bring back President Halsey, or the VP?

Whenever I don't play in the rift for whatever brief reason (like selling data) I always stick on a random HUD colour

Well it needs about 400,000 contributors from what I can estimate, but due to the ambiguous wording, I doubt it will make it as people might just ignore it. Then again, it is extremely interesting so who knows?

Yeah, with the short timeframe and the 2 active bounty hunt CG's I doubt people will go out exploring to come back and sell. I just wonder if anyone is on the way back from a 2 month trip with about 50,000 system scans. Whiterose back yet?

Don't know, but I've seen a person with 6000 claim he is heading back (another thread) and so is a buddy of mine. Let's hope it all adds up

Sweet, im interested to see what the reward tiers will be since Exploration is a poor moneymaker in the first place it could be quite high. Looks like quite a jump from 3 to 4.
If Tier 4 gives something like 50mil to the top 5% that'd make it really worthwhile. Anything under 10mil just seems too little for the time and effort it takes to explore.

I could maybe, with a concerted effort, get there in time. But (a) I have to go to work in no more than 10 hours and (b)I'd miss out on all the other things (nebulae) I want to see on the way home.

Of the other two exploration CGs the highest reward was 10,000,000, but it had a lot more Tiers and I don't know if it reached max. So who knows? We just breached Tier 1 and the top 5% get 1,000,000 so far. Let's hope we reach it.

It's up to people returning from long trips to make this happen, I doubt people are going to go out and start collecting

You can do that in probably 4 hours, then you can go to bed and hand it all in when you get back from work. CG ends in 1 day 17 hours. How many scans have you got?

About 1200 systems, and also a plan that involves taking my time and checking out the nebulae between Monkey Head and home (alas I lack the range to get to Crab which was my original plan

)

Yeah, see if you can get some time tomorrow/Friday. But I'd only bother if you know you can make it back.

It'd be so bad if you try and fall short before having to turn around and travel out into the black again

Hah, was just going to say the same thing. At least they're adding in-ship Galnet feeds now, previously any explorer out in the void wouldn't have any way of knowing about exploration CGs until they made it back to populated space.

Gahh, and I was just about to get started again with this new exploration trip. Well, the good news is, I should be within 2k LY of Sol or so, so coming back is not that much of a problem... rather short timeframe, though, I suppose the needs of the narrative are foremost here.

I'm coming back, but i'm still 8000ly from home. I COULD MAKE IT, given my play time, if i just blow the horn and never look at system map. And cancel the detour to FAUST. Would it be worth? Absolutly not, and i'm not talking of credits. If it was a week a long they could have had my 2000 scans and many other's, this way they won't.

Nevertheless, good luck on everyone partecipating!!!

Damn. There is no way in hell that I can return so fast. I am carrying data for only about 1500 systems this time, but very thoroughly scanned.

Oh well. I am kinda used to miss interesting stuff happening back home while I'm out...

I wouldn't worry too much, if the scans are thorough, then they are best saved for gaining rep and permits. This CG only benefits from total systems scanned, and all your hard work will be wasted
