Exploration data and minor factions

If I sell exploration data at a station controlled by a minor faction, but the faction doesn't control the system, does my selling the data increase the factions influence within that system?

Yes it does

Excellent, my final haul will hopefully help an Imperial faction take over an independent system then.

Any ideas on quantifying how much influence is gained for selling 'x' amount of data?
