Exploration data is too difficult to get to

Like many pilots out there in the black, I prefer to make my living as an explorer. I enjoy the trade, but I find that there are a couple of things that could improve the experience. Mainly, the accessibility of my exploration data. Any time you scan a star or planet you need to enter into the System Map (which takes a fair bit of time depending on your connection or hardware) just to view the properties of that celestial body. Frontier, if you're listening, I suggest having that data readily accessible on the HUD, or on a tab within either the left or right pop-up screens within your ship.

Anyone else agree?

Totally. In the meantime, install Captains Log 2 - does exactly what you ask as an overlay. ED Discovery will have something similar soon. Now that the data is in the journals, possibilities are....well, possibly :D

I agree, but as disorganise states above I think FDev is going the way of third-party development tools (ie they allow our log files to include lots of extra data that third-party developers can utilise)...you have direct access to your data just not in ED (but with the overlays available in these programs it appears like they are in ED)

I'd rather use a 3rd party tool like Captains Log. Why? It allows for customization. If it becomes hard coded into the game then everyone has to have it whether they want it or not. 90% of the time I don't care about the material composition of the planets I'm scanning. It is only on those rare occasions where I'm hunting jumponium that I want to see this data ... and Captain's Log provides it for me with no problems.

But this is the wrong way - at least for the XBox version. Basic functionality has to be build into the game - not only supported by external software.

You make a good point. Also, as much as I love the overlays, then do occasionally cause issues. Eg I move the mouse too far up and lose control of the ship.....It's ALWAYS just as I'm exiting hyperspace.
FDev chose to release on xbox so they do need to actually support it with functionality.

I am with you OP.

Another useful feature would be the ability to display the first few lines of the scanner on the HUD when you choose. Last night I just happened to look at the scanner and there was a USS. It disappeared before i could around. It got me wondering how many I had missed and what they might contain out here in the black.
