Exploration: Discovered X astronomical objects. Less than X objects exist in system map / system

This has happened many times before, and this is not the case of black holes. I just scanned a system and it said 3 astronomical objects found, yet on the map, I see only the main star and a belt.

What gives?

Astroid pockets...they will not show all the belts, just symbol of some present but count each as an object

Asteroid belt (not belt around planet) count as one i system map, but in reality those are asteroid clusters and there can be many of them. If you look at nav tab on left panel you can see 3 undiscovered objects 1 is star and two are two asteroid clusters that are part of the same asteroid belt orbiting star.

Did you check your filters? I have mine to ignore Asteroid belts, I only scan and discover the rest..... no money in the belts, and if I mine I seek more coin than random belts.....

Each asteroid belt has several clumps. Each is a separate instance and counted by the game.
This.

In reality, asteroid belts are 99.99% empty space. Every probe to the outer solar system has gone through Sol's belt without even a scratch. The game has clusters of asterods in each belt, which can be targeted and mined just like any planetary ring. Everyone ignores them though, as they're largely utterly worthless. The big honk doesn't count the whole belt as one; the contacts panel shows all clusters. Each cluster counts as an astronomical body.

You can filter them out of your contacts panel, which makes navigation much easier.

Yes, 1.5/2.0 has "Filters" over in the Navigation tab.

Asteroids are filtered out of the navigation menu, but each cluster still counts as an "astronomical object" in the honk report.
