Guys,
I've only been playing E
for about 2 weeks.
I found last weekend, after making a fairly lengthy journey across the universe, that I couldn't actually recall my route back to the system I called home!
I tried using a route planner but it did not know the system or about 20 of the system around me.
faced with the prospect of self destructing I dug around the log files and discovered the systems I'd been through.
they live here : Frontier\EDLaunch\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1010\Logs
The logs are not pretty to read and I had to cut and paste to get them into something usable but it really saved my sanity knowing how to get home!
Does anyone know of a tool that will present your trail in a human friendly / readable fashion?
If not, I have created a simple portable web page with a script that allows you to pick one or more log files and it will scrape your route.
It has options to :
a) Reverse the route if you want to see where you started to where you are now
b) Show / Hide the time stamp
c) Hide the log file name.
You can select multiple files and it will keep appending them to the webpage output.
I'm open to suggestions for improving it as it's a bit rough and ready, I'm no UI developer, although pretty stable and quick to process files.
There could be more features that others would find useful I'm unaware of so I'm open to suggestions.
I'm not sure of the rules regarding posting a link to a file please see my signature for a link to the files on box.com. (I've just added a Chrome Extension which is more discrete than a full web page.)
The source is perfectly viewable using any text editor, heck, notepad would do if you are suspicious of it
but it only opens and formats the logs you point it at no more or less.
