Exploration in 1.1

Just wanted to say I'm really enjoying the changes to exploration in 1.1. Maybe small details but they really add up. Was about 150LY from occupied space when 1.1 went live, and now on jumping into systems I can see who first discovered a system or whether it is really unexplored. Realised very quickly there's still a lot of systems close by that nobody has yet been to! Col Sector 285 eq-u b4-0 now has my name on it. :D It really adds to the exploring experience - which is not and doubt will ever be, about the money. Although, saying that, the First Discover bonus was a nice to see too!

Just one thing that occurred to me that might need a tweaking. The sell page of data is a great option for explorers, however it might be a good idea to have an option to toggle on/off the info regarding first discovered. For the explorer with thousands of systems to sell, the first discovered screen kinda negates the speed of selling a page of data. For those of us less ambitious, it's a great thing to see though. :)

I think it's too late to find out when you arrive that the system has been discovered... why is this not displayed on the galaxy map? Or am I missing something?

yeah, enjoying exploring too now, waited 1.1 to start!!!!! Covered already over 5000ly since this morning, it's really pleasant too see commander names who where there before me... but... of course, there will be soon my name on a lot of bunch of systems too ^^ Hell I like that :)

Not crossed a player so far.... it's way to spread out I think ^^ First time I'd complain about the game being toooo wast... but at least, everyone can 'claim' being the first on a lot of systems!!!

One thing I think I've misunderstood.

I was sure that one of the 1.1 tweaks was to make the system map go back to wherever you loaded it from, rather than dumping you to the galaxy map every time.

It's certainly true that I don't go to gal map now, but if I've loaded the sys map from my Target Panel, when I press Exit I get put back to cockpit view, rather than back into Target Panel.

Am I confused or just daft?

Otherwise, yes: love the changes :)

Presumably because discovered by tags only display on individual bodies in the system map, and you don't get a system map for anything you haven't been to or bought data for.
I think (hope) they're going to change this in future, along with a few other things I'd like to see, like just being able to know what systems you've been to before. I'm certain I discovered something between Achenar and VYCM but since I don't remember the names of any of the generated systems I visited, I have no way of finding out for sure.

One thing we found out in experiments for the persistant universe stuff is that the galaxy map updates once a week. Might be why they didn't add the firsts to the galaxy map. Or maybe they did and it will take a week to show lol

I don't think it's too late - I think it's perfect. You've got to go out there to discover whether the discovery had been done. OK, maybe it's not 'realistic', but it's great from a gameplay perspective - otherwise you'd get casual explorers just out for the one system. I dunno about that - exploration should be about the discovery 'out there', including whether you're the first to discover!

Lucky you. I am one of the affected with CDT bug so I don't want to do any more exploration until they fix it.

Basically means I can't play at all, because exploration is only thing I do in Elite. Such heartache.

I completely agree with this. I wish the game kept some kind of record where you could see your 1st discoveries. Now I have to write all the systems down.....which is alot of work and kinda of tedious

Ouch! Don't know what the CDT bug is, doesn't sound good.

What's I'm really looking forward to is the planetary landings....seen so many world where it's like, I just want to go there and land next to that little bay I can see from orbit and maybe build a hut or something...sorry no that's Minecraft, but you get the idea.
