Exploration in a Type-9?

I plan to spend a week or so visiting some of the Nebulae further afield. Have visited Pleiades & the California Nebula in a Type-7 & Clipper, jump range was not an issue.

My Type-9 can do 19LY, although it may be a bit less once I have installed the advanced scanner maintenance kit etc.

Is this a hopeless mission trying to get to Nebulae far away? I fly purely in a DK2, the ASP is pretty spacious, but the Type-9 is massive, lots of space hence why I would prefer to use this ship.

Comments from any long range explorers would be very helpful.

I did exploration for a while in a Type-9. I think it's great - it's not a great ship to dogfight in but if you're looking for something with space and comfort, it'll do you. Mine is rigged for mining and exploring.

I see no reason why you couldn't explore with a Type 9, but beware of the wear and tear bill when you come home! Pretty sure this will be higher than your profit from exploration data. Then again, seeing as you have a Type 9, I doubt you're doing it for the money

19LY of jump range is ok as long as you don't try to go into areas with very few star systems.

Cool, that's good to hear. I guess a plus side is the massive tank, whilst exploring in the Clipper I had a constant fear of being stranded in a region of stars with no fuel source.

Haha yeah thanks, definitely not doing it for the money. Have a list as long as my arm of places I need to visit. Girlfriends going away for a bit, perfect excuse to chill out and explore

Just enjoy the peace and quiet when you get far enough away from civilisation that there won't be any more NPC pirates. There's nothing like flying your ship wherever you like in your own tempo without anyone or anything tugging at your plans or schedule... But be careful: Many of us got addicted to that change of pace and now only return "home" occasionally. You might just find the same thing.
