Exploration is amazing again

Still kind of "tiling issue" ;)
Are you trying to argue that 2 procedurally generated plants, which is made of pre-generated blocks, are going to be more similar than 2 literal copy of pre-generated plants ?
Because that's not an argumentation you can win, just sayin'.

No, I'm saying that you nevertheless find out "tiling issues" with proc gen predefined blocks plants very fast....unless there are a lot of predefined blocks.

I know, it's fairly obvious in NMS. But I feel it would be better still.

And predefined blocks can always be added to the pool over time. I think they did that with NMS, and the variety increased.

I know you haven't played for a while, but have you paid attention to the 'new' stuff in Odyssey? Even the original Horizons 'bio' has been distributed differently.
Never mind, it is still just a game, and 'realism' takes second place to anything else ;)
Yeah, I'm aware that FDev improved the distribution mechanics for bios, and removed the stupid "It's exactly here" mechanism for finding them - though the heatmap appears to still need some work.

However, the 'reason' for finding bios is still 90% "I want to take a screenshot" and 10% credits. There should be more 'science' involved, in my opinion.

I agree about gaming taking precedence - I'm not the one aiming ED is 'realistic' 😁

I agree: I love the realistic tone Elite has but in my mind devs should authorize some fantasy on a random (and preferably rare, hence the excitement) basis like, I don't know, donuts' shaped planets, supra-gigantic stars, weird kind of rings, fantasy stellar objects like a city located on a moving comet, more Alien stuff, planet-size abandoned vessels, impossible caves that would go kilometers deep inside planetary crust, impossible canyons/mountains/archs on planets, huge creatures wallking on surfaces.... Being too serious sometimes dosen't serve the game either. Exploration would be more exciting with the mere possibility of encountering something totally off the charts, especially if it was really rare..

Odyssey 'changes' have certainly made the 'extreme' bodies incredibly rare (I'm being kind here, because we haven't found them yet doesn't 100% mean there are not any) while transforming some of the 'mundane' Horizons bodies in a positive way.

One tiny HMC (Or MR - I'll have to go check!) I found on one of my accounts has turned into a proper 'hot potato' from a bland ball... (I got roasted on the terminator taking a selfie...)

Maybe, in time, the algorithm that is used to generate bodies in Odyssey will get 'tweaked' sufficiently to be a little less serious (I liked that reference!) and more fun - all we can do for now is have fun with what we currently have!

What could be more fun than procedurally generated rocks.

What did you say - Not serious? Extreme bodies?

What's 'a lot' when it comes to 400 billion interpolations?
In theory, somewhere around 16, maybe go to 32 for some wiggle room. Why? 16! = 20922789888000, or enough combinations for 52 galaxies.
In practice, might want a few more, but you still don't need a silly (many digit) number, because random being what it is, you'll get repeats anyway.
