While spending a lot of time searching for volcanic features I thought of a possible way to improve the search for permanent POI's - exploration limpets.
These would be launched when flying above the surface and would continue at the same height and same heading but much, much faster. They would continue until they expire, like all limpets. Any permanent POI's found would be shown on the planetary map.
Of course, this requires cargo space for the limpets and a dedicated module slot for an exploration limpet controller, with a higher class of controller allowing the limpets to last longer and explore further. So this proposal would not appeal to those who like to maximize jump range.
