Exploration - Love hate relationship - Proposal to make it all love

I love the new exploration DSS - Scanning planets and revealing all the POIs - I found a system full of Biological POI - nearly every single planet. Before this update I have never found one myself! - Love you!

I love the new exploration DSS - Scanning planets and revealing all the POIs - I found a system full of Geological POI - nearly every single planet. Before this update I have never found one myself! - Love you!

I hate the new exploration DSS - Having to scan all planets to reveal all the orbit lines and orbit periods - I found a system full of planets and after scanning for 20 minutes I open the map to find no interesting orbits! - What a waste of time!. Before this update I could check orbits within 15 seconds! - Hate you!

I could go on...

However, a thought occurred to me, remember when we honked and the map was full of black bodies, it showed all the orbits but just not the planet detail.

So meet me in the middle Fdev, reveal the map on honk but not the planet detail like before, just need orbits. From there I can decide to scan... or not!

Pretty please!

Its relevant because FD have dropped 3.3 which is exploration focussed, how much more do you want? There are plenty of other parts of the game that need desperate attention so lets get FD going on them, and not eternally fiddling with stuff they just changed.

For me, the problem is the way the FSS (and, to a lesser extent, the DSS) looks, rather than what it does.

It makes me feel as though I'm successfully reading a wiki (a really, really badly designed wiki) about all the planets in a system rather than actually exploring them.

To me, the ideal system would be one that allows "tourists" to immediately find potentially interesting planets but doesn't reward them, financially, for doing so, and then provided tools that allow "investigators" to establish extra information about planets (size, mass, composition etc) which is valuable.

If it was done from the cockpit rather than a blue screen of panning im sure it would have come across much better.

They could have made it so that all the signals in a 180 or 160 degree field of view were added to system map so you'd only have to do it twice it would have worked.

I think the boat has sailed though, all the people who like the new exploration god mode (discovery via clicking) wont let go of it now.
