Exploration Missions

I must say that I am more than a little insulted that missions that require Exploration Rank all seem to be Smuggling or Mining Missions

I thought we were the thoughtful scientific type, not a bunch of Del Boys or pacifist Jolly Jack Tar !

250,000 for 10 minutes picking up a few Black Box's isnt unwelcome though ;)

yeah, would be nice to see expl. missions to starsytem x to land on planet y, location z and perform an offship laboratory scan and walk on the surface. who knows...

Hi CMDR!

we're thinking about exploiting the JSTA-XMPLE D13-3 sector and need to start drawing up preparations. We need the locations of pristine metallic and metal rich rings around Jovian planets!
Each of the location you'll provide us will grant you a shedload of credits.

Cheerio!

Pretty sure they cant do that, considering the Sirius CG is to find habitable planets but theyre paying for any old system :/

I saw an interesting Explorer mission during the Beta but I'm keeping it quiet. Ooops, that's torn it, might as well say... it was a "follow up the mysterious clue" mission that didn't lead anywhere, but looked like some time later it would. :)

I'd like to see missions like this in an effort to expand the frontier of inhabited space. Prospectors/miners should be the first to start to expand following us explorers finding interesting areas worth prospecting to turn a profit.
They can do that but that would detract from precious pew pew development.
Gun play has been part of living in the frontier when you look back at history. If they expand the frontier of inhabited space, I would expect this to still be the case. Of course explorers can just continue to move "west" to avoid this. Though if Thargoids are ever introduced, that would essentially be the equivalent of raiders attacking across the cosmos. Not that it would necessarily be an exploration role, but I could see an incentive for players to stick around in the frontier systems
