Okay, so I already know my idea falls down in a couple of areas, and might as well admit that what you're about to read is me contriving a way to get paid for driving the SRV, because it's pretty much my favourite thing to do.
I was reflecting that I sometimes go mountain climbing in the SRV just for fun - I've got more materials than I know what to do with, every base I know of is in its two week timer, and I still want more, so off I go.
Then a thought struck me, what if a mission agent could pay me to try to climb a mountain I'd just discovered? Wouldn't it be cool if explorers out in the black could beam back their results to the bubble, and an agent could mail you saying 'hey, I've just been looking at these scan results - could you head to [body you discovered recently] and drive from these co-ordinates to these co-ordinates and get back to me when you're done' er....and this is where I run out of ideas, but essentially I'd like a challenging drive, and if there's also something else to do, then so much the better - maybe there could be an SRV-mounted detailed feature scanner that does an additional scan beyond a DSS scan for extra money or something?
Anyway, I'm the first to admit it's a little half-baked, it just seemed like a start of an idea for a way to a) get paid for driving the SRV and b) give explorers the option for some variety and interaction with the bubble if they want it, even when they're not actually there (obviously they'd have to be able to cash in remotely too, I suppose).
