Newcomer / Intro Exploration money

Does anyone know how much is the difference of exploration money between these three exploration levels:
1) Planet or star discovered, but not scanned
2) Planet or star scanned
3) Planet or star scanned with Detailed Surface Scanner

I've read somewhere that the difference between options 2 and 3 is maybe 30 percents, but how much is the difference between options 1 and 2? It seems to be hard to grind money for Detailed Surface Scanner, and I'm thinking about options for speeding up exploration. If I just use Basic Discovery Scanner near the star, scan the main star and ignore the planets and jump to the next system, I could explore systems far more quickly, but the exploration data would naturally be less detailed.

Or should I just trade until I have enough cash for the Detailed Surface Scanner?

I'm not sure of the actual amounts but with a basic discovery scanner I only made a couple of thousand. With the advanced and detaled I make 20,000 or more. Might be differences in the systems as well accounting for some of that.

I missed grinding 250k for a DSS.

In my opinion, the DSS and advanced discovery scanner aren't really optional if you want to make any appreciable money from exploration.

I got back from a 1300LY exploration mission to LBN 623 yesterday. I scanned some 80+ systems, more than half of them completely. The interesting planets are sometimes not even orbiting the primary star. Second, third and fourth stars are extremely common. Even the intermediate discovery scanner won't detect most of them.

I made about 1,000,000cr from selling the data to universal cartographics.

You need a seventy jump range - at least 20LY - in order to be able to bridge the larger gaps between stars.

This, of course, is if you're interested in deep exploration. If you just want to scanner a few stars while you trade, you're fine.

I've read the first post in that thread before, but it doesn't answer my question. This would be easy, if I had 2 million credits to spend on Advanced Discovery Scanner and Detailed Surface scanner, but with my current method (Try to find all planets and stars with Basic Discovery Scanner or visually with parallax method and surface scan them one by one) it probably takes a month or so, so I'm trying to figure out better methods for collecting credits for better gear.

There's not really a better method within exploration itself.
You could try running rare trades for a bit, plotting economical courses on your 160ly runs to sell the rares, gathering scan data on the way. That allows you to build up the necessary funds to buy the ADS and surface scanner.

Not seen any concrete info on it. Early guesstimates said...

Detailed scan 100%
Basic scan 50%
Discovery 25%

I think thats not quite right though. I think for discovery there is a base value for each object type. When you scan for more info the value does scale based on the type of scan but extra bonuses depending on specific features.

So its multipart valuation.

Therefore i suspect that pinging an earthlike gets you 25% of the value for an earthlike but when you detail scan and get info like atmosphere and life etc this boosts the base value significantly.

This is just pure conjecture on my part though.

It really requires a group of people to do some extensive coordianted testing and build up a big data set for evaluation.

The FGE core team should give this a go perhaps.

I've managed to get about 18,000 credits from one system without detailed surface scanner, so it really depends on the system.

Thanks, finally a useful link! I've visited that page in the past, but I had forgotten what it looks like. It has some exact values, although you can never be sure if they are still valid in the current version. So it looks like you get 4x profit if you scan unexplored planet, and the profit may even double if you have the Detailed Surface Scanner.
Bookmark that site dude, I use it all the time if I need to help on something.

Hence why I bought the DSS last night with the cobra I bought. :D I'm going to blast off in a random direction tonight; scanning as I go. :)

Ummm... You'll note that the image on the Wiki page is the same image posted by Nutter on his exploration guide. All the information there is contained in Nutter's Guide.

Or at the very least read and make an effort to understand both what he said and the information he linked.

I think that guide is great. Apparently, the OP doesn't.

The best way to make enough money to afford decent exploration tools is not by exploring, IMO.

It seems that version 1.1 made the money rewards from exploration a lot more clear. :) Very nice change indeed.
