Exploration Music Jukebox - Your Community Bank Of Space Soundscapes!

Heya there :)

Following up on BirdWisdom's thread, I thought I'd put together yet another collection thread, this time for space exploration music \o/

First and foremost, when I say 'exploration music', I take into account music that provide a sense of galactic or general space, that explicitly refer to space and/or adventure/exploration, music that is contemplative, atmospheric verging on ambient, or music that develops a sense of wonder, discovery, epicness or introspection. These are quite vague boundaries I admit; in other words, I leave out pure new age stuff, warrior epic, full-blown techno or avantgarde experiments, as well as satured guitars shoegaze, etc. I also leave out the countless random multi-hour mixes that YouTube can provide very well. As per the theme, the list is mostly oriented towards electronic music, but that's by no means a restriction (see Godspeed You! Black Emperor, etc.). As for soundtracks, well most of them will be from movies set in or around space, but again, that's not a requirement; and yes, Jurassic Park's soundtrack always works <3

I grabbed part of the suggestions on BirdWisdom's thread, and added several albums from my own collection that I thought would work well. Classical music still to come.

Priority is given to full albums. I'll probably create a YT playlist to put all the extra individual tracks in it at some point (though if someone else wants to take care of it, I'd be super happy). No album doesn't make the list if there isn't a decent audio quality version around. All links are YouTube, unless unavailable (then, Bandcamp).

SUBMITTING

This list is absolutely destined to be a community music bank; but 'exploration music', sort-of-defined above ^, doesn't necessarily equal 'the music you listen to'. Submission that are too far apart from the theme won't be added. Please post full albums as much as possible, with clean YT links to good audio quality vids. No Spotify or anything that requires a login.

CATEGORIES

ELECTRONIC : sounds particularly electronic (synths, bass...) and is not ambient
AMBIENT : long works, focused on slow paced atmospheres and textures
ATMOSPHERIC: instrumentally more open than electronic, less rigid about slow pace than ambient
SOUNDTRACKS: self explanatory (films, games...)
WORLD/EPIC: mostly crossover works that blend different styles with an emphasis on the element of wonder

!!!!
I didn't keep the Hawkwind track on the other thread but I'd like to have a good, spacey album of theirs. Also, I couldn't find full version of Jeff Mills' Jungle Planet and Where The Light Ends, they would have been great here.

I'll process all those soon -- took a few seconds to add Blade Runner 2049.

Probably goes without saying but the new Blade Runner 2049 soundtrack works very well with Elite. After scooping up some scout thargoid lovelys for Palin I was interdicted on my back to Obsidian to the tune of Elvis' Caught in a trap. Perfect :)

Banned
“Ether” - Mogwai/Atomic

“Last Sunrise in the Wasteland” - At The End of Times, Nothing/Everything We See Will Die

“Terrain” - pg.lost/Key (this one really works for PVP)!

Love the second track so much...I can see Elite when I listen to it.

Flying happily

Reps are flying low today... :)

Since quite a while E-Mantra is my favorite for exploration.

This track is probably my favorite:

While this album is probably the best:

Just don't try to search much else from this artist, at least as much as I love most forms of electronic music, I can't stand goa trance.

I'm not sure of 100% fit with your criteria. But Hawkwinds Space Ritual is a classic feeling of the cosmos. With a lot of ambient sounds, and a feeling of contemplation.
Followed by their Warrior at the edge of time, and Hall of the Mountain Grill.

Added:

Carbon Based Lifeforms
Stellardrone (sounds liek I might like that very much)
Solar Fields
Pink Floyd
Eloy (I like their sound)

Atrium Carceri : need to make a cover artwork
Evening Star : I can't seem to find a full album on YT

The rest tomorrow!

For more than 3 albums of the same artist, I had to use spoiler tags to avoid clustering the OP too much too soon, hope you don't mind.

Speaking of spoiler tags, please don't forget to use them for embedded videos, cause those are quickly heavy on page loading time ;)

Wow, I'll have to go through my playlist and see what I can find on Youtube from it. I may post a few.

The stuff I listen to fits right into the category(ies) here. Lots of (by artist) E-Mantra, Moonbooter, Astropilot, Lazerhawk, Aes Dana, Ascendant, Asura, Solar Fields, Stellardrone, Sundial Aeon, Volkor X, Waveshaper, some Tangerine Dream, plus tons of others in various quantities. :)

I know spotify doesn't qualify here, but I keep a copy there, which is a curated list, rather than full albums.

Added lotsa stuff.

I'll gather the indidvidual tracks later; and no compilations please ;)

And please use the SPOILER TAGS! ('cause lists are long to scroll down as time goes by)

Yeah, skipping compilations can make sense. There are some cases were some of the professional compilation albums have a variety of exclusive tracks though, so maybe some exceptions might make sense? They're also a good launching point to find artists.
