Exploration over the patch update

Hey guys. Bit of a noob question I admit but just thought I would check.

I am currently 5K Ly away from the nearest star port with the intention of making it to the galactic centre this, my third large scale expedition. However with patch 1.3 being released soon I was wondering if it would be safe to be out here over the update? I confess I have little knowledge of the systems which manage the update and thus do all ships reset to the nearest station or do they simply stay where they are exactly as they were before the update.

Any help would be appreciated!

As per thanks for the fast reply guys! Cool, in which case I'll keep heading out, judging by what I am reading the further I am away from occupied space the safer I actually am!!
