Exploration question

Hey folks!

I was wondering when I enter a system and run the basic discover scanner do I need to go to each unexplored location to get the data to sell? Or do I get the data when I get the "x astronomical bodies discovered" notification?

Bith of both.

You get a token amount for discovering the planets / stars etc with the discovery scanner, then you get an additional amount for each body you travel to and scan with the detailed surface scanner.

You get so much for discovering the sun. More of each item in the system discovered and more for each of the bodies you scan.

credit rewards vary and so some systems are not worth exploring for say 50cr more.

If you only have a basic scanner stick to only scanning the sun and moving on. Get a better scanner and come back later for the rest of the system. Less time per system spent running in random directions then.

I have jumped into complicated systems (binary / trinary stars, lots of gas giants and other planets plus asteroids) and took the time to scan every last thing. When I sold the data I made between 23,000 and 30,000 for them and the entire exploration run out into the unknown netted me 100,000 overall. Definitely worth the time + effort, not to mention just enjoying the breath-taking visuals!

When you say scanned everything, can you give a bit more detail please? I'm about to go full on exploration mode and wanted to make sure I don't miss any of the important steps. I have the detailed surface scanner equipped and will pop in the top level system scanner before I head off. Do I need to goto ea body in the system and analyze with the surface scanner to get all the info or does the adv scanner get all I need?

Many thanks,

Find a good exploration guide and give it a read.

from my experience you need a discovery scanner and the surface scanner is more for extra credits.

when you get to a new system come to a complete stop and use the scanner. The sun will.be found during this time.

point your nose at the sun and select it. This will start the surface scan and name the object.

by this point the discovery scanner will have charged and you can use the system view to see what you have.

you will learn the views after a few and even distances to get into surface scan range. Suns are easy to scan and as you go down in size the closer you need to be.

Good tip is to get within 10ly of a major planet with minor planets/moons around it and you can just sit and scan the lot. Asteroid fields i usually skip as there so short range to scan and add so little credits.
