Exploration rewards

Just got back from a small exploration trip -- nothing far, just 800 LY outside the bubble to pick up some guardian blueprints. Did detailed scans on a number of planets that hadn't yet been mapped. When I got back to Jameson Memorial and turned in my cartographic data, the first screen indicated that I'd made around 9M credits and the second (first discoveries?) indicated 8M, but my account was only credited around 9M credits total. I'm not overly concerned -- I wasn't exploring to make credits, since I can make significantly more trading, but I'm curious about whether I misread the screens or found a bug (perhaps they were telling me that I made 9M total, including first discoveries, but 1M for scanning a couple of dozen systems -- without first discoveries -- seems low). Anybody else discovering oddities when turning in cartographic data?

Your interpretation more or less matches my own. That 'first discoveries' page gives some detail on the stuff you tagged as either first discovered or more likely first mapped, then all the other stuff you got info on is lumped into an 'other' line.

I quite like it, it tells me what I want to know most of the time.
