What's the best way to utilise exploration data? If it's just money then it's Li Yong Rui but is there another way to make use of it say in achieving rank with one of the Powers? Anything at all?

I think because the game's been out for several years now it's kind of fruitless searching through google because there is lots of info and some of it is years old. Is there a recent update about Exploration Data and the best way you can profit from it?

Selling exploration data raises the influence (in that system only) of the minor faction that controls the station you sell at.

If said faction is aligned to the Empire or Federation it might also contribute to reputation and rank with the superpower but I'm not certain.

You can get money (if you want to engage in powerplay while holding on to your explo data, you can get the 200% from LYR), and you can get local reputation with the station owning factions where you turn in the data. A few Million are ususally good enough to become allied, which in turn will help you get better missions and unlock any permits this faction might give out.
So no direct effect on superpower rank (for that, you will need to do missions), but an indirect effect from mission availability and quality.
