[Exploration] Seasons In The Abyss : An Epic Journey

I am around 300 ly from this blue saphirre the NGC 6357 nebula and around 7.800 ly from Sol.I will post more photos tommorow from inside of it.

Some superb screenshots there! +1 rep. Very inspiring!

A mere 4,000 light year jaunt across the Sagittarius arm of the milky way brought me to the Bleae Aescs nebula. I'll admit now, this nebula is top of my charts currently for pure
visuals and exploration and I've seen a few, beating even the Orion and Pleiades nebulae I visited before embarking on this epic journey.

I have just finished my first round trip including LBN 623 Nebulae, California Nebulae and Pleiades Nebulae you mentioned. I have to admit that the best one was LBN 623. It is just 400Ly from Sol. I wonder if its as good as Bleae Nebulae? ;-) I will not check it soon. A bit too far... yet. What would you recommend for the second trip?

Probably Lagoon or Eagle (6~7k ly's from Sol I think). Coalsack and Pipe Stem are just dark clouds I wouldn't bother with them for now. I'm going to visit the Eagle,Lagoon and Triffid nebulae on my way back :D

Great thread, awesome photos.
I'm getting ready to set out myself. Finally managed to get that class 5,A FSD drive for my Asp Explorer today. Got the advanced scanner, surface scanner and fuel scoop. Should I get a field repair kit too? It says they need ammo, never used one of those before. Does it matter what class and quality?

Amazing journey, loved the screenshots :)

Thankyou :)

I took one along , Class A2 , has kept what it's allowed to fix at 100%. It should be 'full' when you buy it, just check the Rearm tab in station before you leave just in case. It will NOT fix thrusters or hull. Better class = more ammo/usage.

DO NOT try to repair FSD while in frameshift, drop out first or you will take hull damge (found out by doing that by accident when repairing other modules).

Keep your shields (maybe interdicted on way out of home systems, you don't want hull damage. After 500 ly's you won't see anymore npc's).

Don't take weapons (decreases jump range and you're not fighting - re-buy when you get home).

I'll be doing a write up on how I did it/ship stats/money earnt etc when I get home (3000 ly to go !). I have more posts to add of more nebulae as and when I've cashed in scans and sorted my screenshots.

Hope that helps you / others. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice!
I haven't had weapons since the start of the game, haven't fired a single shot. I did make the mistake of buying a load of battle weapons at the place I got the fsd drive. What a pain in the ass to get rid of them. I should have just dumped them into space. One hour of jumping around I finally found a system that would buy them.
I wanted to get rid of the shields to save weight. I already have a smaller A3 shield. I guess it's better to have them for the way back. I don't want to get interdicted on the last steps to civilization with a heat damaged hull without shields.
I've been flying with the fuel tank half empty to increase the jump range. Are there long treks without stars you can refuel at? Should I sacrifice distance for a full tank or is 16t enough?

Seasons In The Abyss Part 7 : Crookaae AA-A H129 Nebula

The Crookaae nebula is some 13,000 light years from the Sol system and my encounter with it was as far as I went for this journey. I plan to pass the
Eagle and Omega Nebulae on the way back home, but for now I leave you with some screenshots I took of this large gaseous cloud. Like the previous nebula
I found a black hole hidden away inside the cloud, one of the dozens I have already catalogued on the journey.

The approach from above the nebula.

Closer and getting ready to search inside the nebula for the elusive black hole.

Thanks for taking the time to view my journey. Coming next the Eagle nebula. Regards, Commander SpacialKatana.

Seasons In The Abyss Part 8 : Earth Like World

Seasons In The Abyss Part 8 : Earth Like World

Every explorer sets out with one thing in mind, to find their own Earth Like world. Gas giants with ammonia or carbon based life, heck even Water Worlds
just don't quite cut the mustard! I've found oodles of the aforementioned but recently I found my nirvana out near the Crookae Nebula, and what
a backdrop the nebula is for this, no, 'my' jewel in the galaxy. I found it last night so I thought it time to update the thread. Enjoy !

Oh, and did I mention it has it's own metal rich ring system? So not far to go for resources to boot. Result !

Downsides, high surface pressure and radiation (it's orbiting a neutron star) and low oxygen content...but I can work on that !

Unfortunately the natives weren't agreeable with my proposed settlement...

Haha. Oh man I have to rep you, I'm browsing on my ipad lying in bed and slowly scrolling down your images until I get to the last one.. It scared the hell out of me. Haha. Shadows, so creepy :D

SITA : Season 2 Part 1

So I'm out in the big black again on the final push for that 'badge'. This time I'm piloting an Anaconda geared for 36/38 ly jumps. Have to say I prefer it to the Asp, mine could do 33ly jumps if I recall correctly. Why do I prefer the Anaconda? It sounds like a spaceship, not a WWI Bi-plane. Hated that. Your mileage my differ, but it's horses for courses so take that discussion elsewhere please:)

Anyhows, here's a taster of my next voyage, just a few pics to start with, probably a video or two to follow. I encourage the budding explorer or anyone who's not previously seen the thread to start at the beginning !

These pics were all taken on the far side of the Bleae Aewsy nebula. Cheers.

Edit: Can a mod move this to exploration forum please.

SITA : Season 2 Part 3

Today's my day. The day I reached the edge of the galaxy and lived to tell the tale....well hopefully I'll get home, hull's at 91% so there's a good chance. Anyways, I made a little vid showing some parts of my voyage, not very long so I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks to all explorers that know me, have helped me, and follow me. Cheers guys !
