Wingman Shared Exploration

When in the same system as your wingmen, exploration data is awarded for all wingmen present, allowing the entire wing to profit.
The first person to hand the data in is eligible for any bonus payment, but if the data constitutes a new discovery, all wingmen present in the system when the body was scanned will be listed as the discoverers.

Can someone tell me if I am correct in thinking that if I have scanned a system, and THEN go into a wing with a friend and sell the data, that my wingman gets a cut of the sale?

Or does the Wingman have to be present at the point of scanning AND at the point of sale?

I'm not 100% sure, and haven't tried it, but I believe you only share the data when scanning and selling is separate. After all, there are no 'exploration bonds' as there are trade bonds and you could go out exploring for weeks alone and then your mate you met in the last 5 minutes before selling could get a slice of millions.

I believe you have to be in the same system as your wing mate to discover the system as a `wing` to share the data and for any new discoveries once the data is sold. The new system award shows up on the system map with the cmdrs names from the wing at the time the system was scanned.

Thats the part I quoted, it is not clear to me on my original example.
