Exploration suit: worth improving?

Should I do anything more than just buying it? What's necessary for comfortable space legs exploration? I don't have to minmax everything, just don't want to figure out 20 kylies away that smth crucial is missing. ;)

I'd like to know why a 'blueprint' is needed every time some upgrade needs to be done. Have engineers not thought about copying the 'blueprint' from their last grade 2 upgrade so they don't have to wait for the commander to find one, bring it back, and then input all the data on it so they can upgrade another suit/weapon/scanner?

I don't think upgrading the suit will be terribly important if what you tend to do is get out of the ship/SRV to use the genetic sampler, and then get back in. The longer running stamina mod, or if there's one to reduce power consumption for life support, things like those might be useful to some degree. I think the one that would be really nice to add is the night vision mod. But again, not strictly necessary. So it's up to you as to whether it's worth it.

I bought a class 1 Artemis and managed to do a short trip outside the Bubble before the hotfix. Landed on an atmo planet, scanned some bacteria in three different places which gave me its full genome to sell. I'd say that the basic Artemis is perfectly fine for exploration purposes. Even though the temperature on planet's surface was quite high (670-ish K) and I was playing with sampler and jet-pack a bit, I used about 30% of suit's battery during about 10-minute walk. As going back to SRV/ship recharges the battery, you would have to do a really long walk to be forced to replace the battery.

I've found an unexpected risk, though. It's so easy to... forget the SRV while leaving the planet... :D

Anyone know if upgraded suits can contain several sample parts at once? Know you need a full three part scan otherwise it will be destroyed if you scan something new.

I managed to find a G3 Artemis suit yesterday that already had a couple of mods (I forget what) - cost 18-19 million, but pennies vs the engineering effort I think. And it's actually quite fun travelling to different systems using the Apex shuttles hunting down decent equipment. I think that's what I'm going to roll with until I a) understand properly what all the mods actually do and b) can be bothered with the engineers. FWIW, I have all 3 suits at G3 and 2 of those with mods already, and a couple of similar guns with mods too - they don't seem too hard to find, and recommended for the lazy amongst us... you don't even need to fly if you use the shuttles! :)

Yeah, for the time being I got nothing better to do - so I do Apex trips to Surface Ports and other places to see if I can get some RNG gear as well.
So far, got me a G3 Maverick suit with 2 installed mods and the occasional G2 Weapon.

PS.
I don't give rumors any Credibility that claim Hutton Orbital reached via Apex would sell G5 Suits at a special Apex Discount :D

I've heard from multiple commanders, that they got a nice mug free of charge with their G5 suit and G3 Manticore Intimidator. at Hutton Orbital... Limited quantities available though...

The thing is, as long as there are no places out there that you can't reach with an SRV, then for exploration, all you need to do is get out of your ship / SRV, use the juicer, and get back in.
At least, I haven't found any settlements out there yet. Some small structures around Colonia, but out in the deep galaxy, far away from inhabited space, I've only seen crashed stuff - Nav beacons, comms (spy?) satellites, escape pod distress beacons, the occasional crashed DBX (haven't seen any other ship wrecks yet :D ), nothing that you'd have to walk into.

However, if there is an upgrade that would allow you to hold more than one sample, then it would be worth getting that. Night vision too I guess, but both SRVs and ships have that by default anyway.

I was hoping that higher suit level would extend allowed temp range but apparently it's not a case. I have class 1, my fellow Cmdr managed to find class 3 and it was like either we both could disembark on a planet's surface or we both couldn't.

I totally agree. I can follow the idea of collecting three different and distant samples, however the requirement that it must be one after another, without anything else between makes you browsing around looking for number 2 or 3 and losing anything new you may come across. For me it makes no sense, as if the explorer could not store the samples. Three in total - fine, but not in a row! Darwin would have had to be born and spend his whole life on Galapagos chasing number 2 or 3 with no interruption…

I just wish ships and SRVs had an energy link available. It would be much more immersive than boarding the vehicle just to charge the battery and disembark.

Might be a bit tricky on ships because you'd be trying to tack electrical wiring and contacts - susceptible to dust, damage, high temps, fatigue and whatnot - on to the more extremely heavy engineering of the landing gear? Had the exact same thought about the SRV though.

Even if they did not figure out how to do that in an era of FTL travel, I believe they can still use the technology of 21st century: induction charging...
