Exploration update

Fellow Commanders,

Wanted to give you an update on exploration mechanics after today's release.

Right after the original Dec 1.0 release, I decided to fly straight off and do a 2000LY round trip. What I encountered far far away from known space was common appearances of:

- USS (and when I investigated these, they were no different to what I would expect to find in a busy system's USS...traders flitting about, system authority vessels with a wanted vessel etc)

- random eagles, vipers, sideys flitting around in SC in system (sometimes being interdicted)

Find the above removed the immersion of exploration for me...

Happily I can report that after doing a similarly long trip to the edge of the galaxy, release 1.1 has definitely fixed this - no USS spotted (not once so far :) and if I do come across one I will be for sure checking it out) - also no random ships in supercruise in the middle of no where going no where...I feel very much like I am alone in the void.

Kudos to FD for getting this fixed :)

PS: Anyone else manage to come across a USS far far far away from known space? If yes, what did it contain?

This is sarcasm, right?
If not: Content kills immersion for you?
If this goes on, I'm going to vote for immersion as the ugliest word of the year.

I think the OP is referring to the fact that some time ago we could be 2000ly out, come accross a USS and it would contain a funeral procession!!! It kinda didn't fit with being 2000ly from civilisation.

I did think it got fixed before 1.1 though as I was 1000ly out in 1.07 and wasn't fining ships. Perhaps I'm blind tho!

In conclusion, I don't believe the OP was being sarcastic.

Yes, this was fixed before 1.1 - and a good thing it is.

So, Hackworth, this is no sarcasm. When you head out into the unknown, you don't expect to see a Starbucks behind every corner. I'm guessing Columbus would have been pretty disappointed as well, if he had arrived to the shores of America only to find his cousin having a barbeque on the beach. :p

PS. I know he wasn't actually looking for the Americas, but you get the meaning.

Yep, thanks for that input Susimetsa, there was no sarcasm meant by first post - you certainly described my intent more clearly than I:)

The lack of anything other than astronomical bodies underlines the importance of a USS when/if they do pop up on the radar.

I find this sense of loneliness, in deep space, both exhilarating and unnerving at the same time.

To me there's nothing wrong with encountering other ships just a couple of hours away from civilized space. Especially if the place you are at is famous, such as the California Nebula or Betelgeuse. If you're in some random procedurally generated system with nothing special about it, then there should be a lower chance of encountering anything. It wouldn't surprise me to find a funeral or wedding procession in Beta Lyrae, though.

It is definitely my "annoying buzzword of the last six months".
If I want to immerse myself, I'll go to the swimming pool.
