Explore or exploit?

As pretty much all other prrofessions in game, exploration is work in progress. Give them time. We're actually quite good - I mean, just look at those poor miners.

BTW I don't agree with point 6 - there is no need to target planets within the system view. It takes very little experience and just a bit of thinking to be able to pinpoint every planetary body you want.

adding things listed below could make exploration more fun, all based on simple risk/reward mechanics:
-> scanning small bodies, could give you a big win - but those are rare and one time opportunities
-> scanning systems outside the A/F/G spectrum should have more probability to discover something unique and special (not a terraforming candidate)
-> scanning gas giants / planets with their moon(s), complete, should yield an additionally award for the whole set
-> scanning all bodies within a system should be awarded additionally
-> scanning and mining could go together: pristine mining sites would have a higher/better output

Also i thought about aliasing systems would be cool - so I can add my own chosen name for a system that
will be only stored locally...

I'm pretty sure there is a lot of potential in exploration, and even more with exploration combined with
combat / trading or mining.

Let's agree to disagree - I want better user experience in terms of accessibility and logic. Of course I can pinpoint every body in the nav tab - but seriously, even there a simple filter would be a great thing and more differential icons, don't you think that wouldn't make the game better? I mean HIP 234234 6 E A is more and easier to navigate then a simple planet click in the system view for you? I'm missing the mouse click on any star thing that was in Frontier from 1991, actually, that was one of the first things I tried after installing the game, I started to click on stars and was wondering why can't I select those ;)

I know what you mean, but taking away that little effort every explorer should invest to learn to navigate within the solar system is, imho, counter-productive. We shouldn't ask them devs to simplify something whish is already simple enough.

As for the logic... I wouldn't call that argument :) Because there are tons of stuff in this game which aren't logical at all. Take nav computers, for example: they are capable to track speed, distance and time to target with great precision in real time, but they still cannot drop your ship at selected destination. Autopilot is probably the most logical feature our ships would have IRL, but we're not going to get that. For purely "gaming" reasons.

edit:
I wouldn't mind to see different icons in navtab to separate planets from asteroid rings, though.

Dear ED Team,

I took on in exploration - and I must admit, its fun, somehow looking for a F / G star system and
hoping for a earth like planet keeps you going... but, some thoughts about the game mechanics (correct me if i'm wrong)

1) Is there a special bonus for scanning all astral bodies in a system?
2) Why is scanning the Gas Giants moons so under-rewarded (and actually simply unnecessary, just scan the big daddy and fly away)?
3) Is there a special bonus for scanning all moons of a Gas Giant?
4) Where are Carbon stars?
5) Where are Wolf-Rayet stars?
6) Selecting target planets FROM THE SYSTEM VIEW (PLEASE!)
7) Waypoints in system for a planet-to-planet route? Since now scanning is simply go to the closes planet, scan, next, obviously that's not really efficient since criss crossing
the entire system to scan things aint that motivating...

After a day running exploration (and not reading anything about it) I learned that systems with F/G class main star
are profitable: blip the system after a jump with the advanced discovery scanner and then cherry pick planets from the system view, jump to the next...
Somehow the exploration spirit is lost on it.

I feel bad about that - but scanning all kind of crap gives me no monnies like F/G earth-like planets do.
Could you somehow reward explorers who don't cherry pick systems but scan thoroughly all astral bodies in them?
That would somehow reward those (me included) flying 200.000LS+ to scan that red dwarf on the other end of the star system ;)
Also, maybe some random findings - like unique/special planets? Dunno... Alien ruins? Voyager probe? (guess it would be away from SOL in 3300 :p) Lost exploration vessels?

The Voyager probe is already there, and it's in the proper place where it will actually be in the year 3300. Fly out past pluto , you'll see it... but it's a long flight!
