Engineers Explorer enhancement tips please?

I don't do "The Engineers" except for doing the FSD range mod. I was thinking about some more "explorer enhancement", in fact I was looking at the DSS range modification. However, it looks like I might have to go shoot things to unlock various "Engineers". Then of course one no doubt has to work-up to the grade 5 access somehow.

So any tips for a route to gaining G5 DSS range mod access for someone who has so far only unlocked Flic and Elvira?

BTW - No exploits please, I don't do them.

Cheers :)

Juri Ishmaak can do that mod, you just need either 100k or 1M in combat bonds. Lei Cheung is another option, but you'll need to pay 500k credits to unlock him, then get to level three, and then 200 units of gold together to unlock Cheung. Hera Tani is probably the next easiest, but much more effort because of the need to please Liz Ryder as well.

PS: There's a popular view that Fast Scan is better than Long Range for the surface scanner.

Grade 5 access is quite easy to get - just take a look at previous grades, and collect some low-grade mats to do them.

The best way for explorer would be Dweller and Lei Cheung. The Dweller does engine-focused distributor (allows you to install D-class PD and then mod it to have more boost energy), and Lei Cheung does lightweight sensors (obviously needed for explorer), DSS and the most useful thing - Enhanced Low Power Shields.

Both engineers don't require you to shoot anything, you need only time and some money.

To unlock Dweller, trade at 5 various black markets (i.e. sell some illegal cargo to BM at 5 different stations) and donate 500K.
To unlock Lei Cheung, trade at 50 various commodity markets (i.e. sell something at 50 different stations) and bring 200t of gold (the said gold can be bought at the station that orbits his planet, Stjepan something).

I was under the impression that Adaptive Encryptors Capture was as rare as rocking horse poo...

Yes I have that bookmarked already thanks though.

That looks like an appealing method, I'll have a go at that.

Thanks to all.

Take a bunch of planetary scan missions. You'll get some pretty quickly as extras when you scan the objectives. I'd say the arsenic is the more annoying material to find for that recipe.

Quince is a place to go if you need AECs. Just scan every data point (they're piled up, so it may appear there's only one data point, while in fact there's several).
