Explorer Payouts - did I do something wrong?

I took a 7.5k Passenger Mission (15k round trip from Aditi) on the weekend to unlock Palin. Something like 400 jumps in total in a 40ly aspx. Honked every star and detail scanned every 6th star while scooping, plus a couple of bodies out near the Children of Raxxla embarkation point.

*sidebar - did it in one 10 hour, 1 toilet break sitting and jeeez i felt nauseous afterwards!*

Got back hoping for a little explo love at Aditi and received a princely 45k payout at the cartographer for my troubles. Is that right? What am I missing?

Did you use an advanced discovery scanner? If you were using the basic scanner it would have only popped bodies in a 1000ls range or something like that so it would miss most/many things. Using an ADS, I did a 12k trip for Palin and got something like 1-2M in payout. Some ELWs, some first to find, some ammonia based life...

yep, ADS. Just don't understand it.

I guess as far as natural justice is concerned I did receive a questionable 5m bump in exploration rank as a result of the 10m pax payout, but as I'm keen to do a bit more exploring in 2.3 I don't want to have the same problem!

I made three million in Exploration income on a 1,100 LY passenger trip. I scanned every system with ADS and each primary star on the way there and back (22LY jump range), plus anything in scan range while refuelling.

I took a slightly different route back to avoid anything I had seen on the way out. 45K seems low.

crud, maybe i just sold the first page.

i was so tired after the trek i ended up faceplanting into newholm station half an hour later after transferring the ship to sothis and i must have lost the rest.

dammit, but that at least makes sense (facepalm)

Or as I've come to call it, ten minutes goofing around in Quince.

Don't feel too bad, commander. If you'd been detail scanning, you'd have missed getting your name on a bunch of bodies but if you were just honking it's only the cash that you lost. And cash is easily replaceable. Remember what Grandpa Joe said.

You need to be scanning every star, and looking for likely candidates in every system to chase down with the discovery scanner. Just honking as you pass through and scanning the occasional star is not going to net you the type of profits that are available. It takes at least some effort on the players part for that to happen.
