Explorer Rank- Sagittarius A*

Hello fellow commanders....

I just spent a pretty long time on a trip to the middle of the galaxy and back, which I had never done. Right before I got back, I had an Explorer rank of Trailblazer at 5%. I went to sell my first couple of pages of data back to Universal Cartography, which the first page included scanning Sagittarius A* which netted about 700,000 credits. Also, I had several first discoveries on my first 2 pages sold. I went and looked at my Explorer Rank after selling these first 2 pages, and it didn't budge and was still at 5%. How can that be possible? I would have figured it would have jumped significantly just from selling these first 2 pages.

Can anyone shed some light here?

There is sometimes a delay in registering the rank changes I think? - you may need to log in and out?

£1M == c1% between Pioneer and Elite, so 700K at Trailblazer should make a difference

There is a delay but if you switch *Solo-Open* you will see the exact value. Don't be afraid to sell all the pages, nothing could be lost.

I just know the rank wasnt going up at ALL while I was out in space exploring all those systems, so I assumed it was because I had to wait to get back to sell off all the data. Was this a correct assumption, or is my account bugged with respect to Explorer rank?

Correct. It takes a while for the game to recognize the data you have sold and update your rank

Ok...waited a while, and it went up to 49% Trailblazer....thanks for the info. That was kind of scary, after all the work I had put in. :)

Yes. That assumption ist correct. You rank when you sell data. But it can take a moment until your rank reflects your sales. For me it's usually from a couple of minutes to ~1h. I assume ranking depends on database values. And since exploration requires some more database mumbo jumbo if you have first discoveries it becomes visible once that part is done. Which I again assume is running time based and not on demand.

The Systems Visited and other analytics on that page (scans, time, distance, etc) will change realtime, but you rank won't budge until you sell your data.

Well, I went and sold off all my data from my trip to Sagittarius A* and back. I had tons and tons of first discoveries of Type-Os and Neutron stars, which were my focus. My final totals were 33,000,000 credits made, my rank went from 5% Trailblazer to 42% Ranger. I find it amazing that on a trip that long, that my rank didn't go up more but I guess it's FD's way of making sure the Elite rankings are extremely hard to achieve. I enjoyed my trip, but getting home was quite the grind. I guess I can take solace in the fact that my name will now be attached to lots and lots of objects forever more. Will I ever make that trip again? Probably not, as it's just too long of a grind to get there and back. I'm back to making tons of credits bounty hunting, and maybe someday when I'm in an explorer kitted Anaconda, I will venture out once again.

Elite rank is equivalent to 165m credits.
Your trip is "only 33m value".

If you wanna farm elite ranking go find neutrons stars nests and scan 3000 undiscovered of them.

3000 * 36k (each) * 1.5 (bonus if first discoverer) = elite.

Or just keep exploring. Did 600 000 ly so far. +350 millions credits of exploring revenue.

160-170million to reach Elite. Even those on the DW expedition to the far side of the galaxy may not be elite when they get back, depending on their starting rank. Next time join an expedition, with a lot of people, all the meet ups and shenanigans it really does remove the grind. However, it does take up time. The DW trip for me will have taken 6 months by the time I get back.

Yeah...a long time to invest in a game. Sounds like a cool experience though, when you're doing it with a group. I've seen some of the pictures and they look pretty cool. I'm back to Bounty Hunting for a while to get my Elite status there, and work toward an Explorer-worthy Anaconda so that the jump range is a bit more manageable. 32LY a pop was only good in that I could figure out perfect multiples when the stars got so dense toward the middle. I'd rather have the 40+ LY an Anaconda could provide.

Also weird to think I'd have to do the same trip I just did 5 or 6 more times just to get the Elite ranking in Exploration. Wow, that's a LOT of hours.

Quick question: if I travel with a long-jumping ship, and JUST scan the system, then jump back out........wouldn't it net me MORE data and MORE credit if I use a shorter-jump ships, and hence scan more systems as I needed to do more jumps?

I dont think it matters much.....the real clock time it takes to jump is the same whether I'm going 3LY or 32LY. However, the interesting and lucrative stuff (more type-O stars , black holes and neutron star fields) are mostly located far away from the starting 'bubble', so it's nice to have a ship to get there quickly.

No I don't care about time. What I like to know is, since I'm doing more jumps, shouldn't that translate to more data? (hence, more credits and rank progress)
