Words in advance:
This one is not for rim-explorers because I don´t emphasize on jump range rather than speed for security when returning to the bubble.
Maybe the pre 2.1 guides have to be rethought; it was all about jump range, not so much about safety.
SRV ...
when I find a nice place a still can land there an make screenshots even without a SRV. I don´t see the point in having one (or even two) except collecting materials for the AFMU or jumponium, but that again is only for people heading to the rim which ... I don´t.
2.1 AI ...
With the better AI I would absolutely reconsider taking better shields and thrusters ... for when you return to the bubble and get interdicted.
I spent evenings on coriolis to find the best ships for exploration and escaping ... numberwise.
This would be my ASPX ... for people who love some range

okay, may be the hull reinforcement is a bit over the top. Take a SRV instead or a fuel tank.
The Cobra MK III ... not spectacular but I was surprised ... you can´t have a faster ship when returning to the bubble and have to escape interdictors. And: it´s cheap

The Imperial Clipper ... because it´s my main ship and it´s fast, looks great, and it´s jump range is still ok if the rim isn´t your destination. SRV lovers could even drop the fuel tanks and get a SRV bay and a cargo slot. So ... comfy thing.

I didn´t consider the Anaconda because ... I don´t have the money and I don´t like the ship anyways (sry).
I even played with the Imperial Courier (nice design ! and 22 ly jump range) and the DBX, but the latter is to slow and both can only manage one AFMU.
And don´t forget the cockpit ... unobstructed view in the Clipper. Nice roundview in the ASPX.
And remember: Don´t paint your ship black. It´s cool looking in hangar but also a pain in the back when trying to make nice screenshots.
Anyways, if you want to go with low shields, D class stuff and a slow vessel, you can call the group that escorts explorers back to the bubble. Still forgot their name (shame on me).1
