Explorer to rival the Anaconda

I think it's time to have a dedicated explorer that outperforms the Anaconda in jump range, but is not a top tier multi-roller that costs accordingly.

I suggest one from Saud Krueger, because deep space tourism and scientific exploration is an interesting thing and can go hand in hand. The Beluga Liner might remain having more internal passenger space and would remain a better option for short range mass-tourism and luxury.

However, this one would need to have the same hangar options as the Anaconda (4G SRV and fighter bay), because explorers like to get out of their main ship. In the future I hope there will be the option to use a shuttle instead of a fighter.

I'd love to see the hangar bay to be on top of this new explorer, so you could launch the shuttle while the main vessel is being parked on the ground. Additionally it would be great if the shuttle itself could land and perhaps even drive around slowly, had a small mining laser so you could extract resources from the ground also (of course not as efficiently as with the SRV).

I believe the DBX has a greatest range in game. Might be mistaken post-engineering. But I agree the OP in general sentiment. Anaconda being "best at everything" (pretty much) should end. T-9 should be best transport; Beluga "best" passanger ship; etc.

Could install cargo-only slot and passanger-only slot(s) respectively.

no, its the asp explorer at 71ly

Stripped down Bosstless and shieldless Conda exceed 80ly jumps. i would like to see another large exploration ship with good view from cockpit (not having blocked big part of view with ship's hull), or medium one with range that can compete with conda, but good only with exploring.

Not an explorer, but given the whole drama with griefing in DW2, I would ask for a ship not only good at jumping but also at avoiding interdiction, fast to get out if interdicted and strong enough to resist engineered weapons at the expense of hardpoints, utility mounts, number of internals and core internal sizes for certain modules.

But that's just me.

You are not really exploring if you need something that jumps 70-80 LY.

And the Conda is not best at everything. The Conda is good at being outfitted from one extreme to another. If you want a combat Conda. Its jumps about 18-20 LY and its speed is killed off. If you want a explorer Conda it jumps 70-some LY but can be shot out of the sky by a stock Sidey. Cargo Conda is inbetween. It is only good when you max it to one spectrum or another.

I have a Jumpaconda. I use it get to places quickly. Took it out exploring once and dialed down the jump range to 40ish LY. Its all the between places that get left in the dust that usually have all the good finds.

I don't mind the Anaconda being that capable, quite contrary, I like the way it is, but it comes at a price. So if you need to do only one job with it (jump range), than you are carrying all the potential of the Anaconda as "dead weight" around with you. It is an expensive ship overall and comes with an according re-buy cost.
The Anaconda as a combat explorer is definitely a good option to have, but it would be nice to have a jump range rival that is focused on transportation and exploration.

I believe the Anaconda can still do more.

In any case, as I explained it is not about just the jump range, but similar capabilities, such as a fighter hangar and even more jump range.

It's the cockpit that let's the Conda down.

How about Saud Krueger selling a Beluga explorer. The basic shape of a current Baluga but 'rougher' around the edges. Not posh white but metal coloured, similar modules as the Conda but the military modules would be exploration modules where you can only have SRV bays, exploration scanners and maybe future exploration tools. But with the same FSD as the Anaconda.

How about "The Narwhal"

Can anyone get more jump range than that? If it comes down to price and appearance I'd pick the DBX every time, and I did. Mine gets nearly 36lys but I have exploration goodies installed. Yes the Conda can jump further but it's a large ship and you might not be able to land in the places a DBX can.... plus (in my own opinion) the Conda is just butt ugly. I have an AspX but I think it makes a better mining ship.

Why? When i want explore galaxy core or further regions i may want to get there faster in fewer jumps, then i can start exploring. (Personally i scan every system i jump to, but in theory i could do all that jumps just without stopping, and get in place really fast if i need to). Having big range doesn't mean always using it.

For me main Condas problem in exploration is cockpit position, i have fboth hangars in my conda (in cost of some range, but still above 72 ly).

The DBX(in my opinion)is the best ship for a mixture of combat and exploration. The anaconda does have a great ly range, but it gains heat quickly, while the DBX takes like 5 minutes to heat to 80% while scooping fuel.

When you have best fuel scoop you can fill the tank in no time. Also im not sure but heat resistant plating might help here as well.

That was going to be another point of mine indeed. Therefore I was also going to use the Beluga for exploration, because the jump range is decent and it has a fighter bay. Beluga has a real nice canopy view and the cockpit has a sleek science ship feel to it.

I like the white actually, but the shape could be less like a modern day cruise liner, but more something like this perhaps.

Pretty much. I need the jump range to travel to specific destinations faster, but then take the time to explore those places.

Lakon spaceways should make a type 8 surveyor :p

I used to think of it, too. The Type-9 is like a bigger ASP, similar cockpit, but ship launched fighter and internal room for powerful components, but I also like the idea of another manufacturer doing an explorer, so we have a different design this time.

Why would you spend 5 minutes scooping fuel when going vaguely near a star in an Anaconda gives you a full tank in half a second?
