Explorer to rival the Anaconda

Big Jump DBX - https://s.orbis.zone/26r-

Big Jump AspX - https://s.orbis.zone/26s0

Big Jump Conda - https://s.orbis.zone/26s1

Can anyone get more jump range than that? If it comes down to price and appearance I'd pick the DBX every time, and I did. Mine gets nearly 36lys but I have exploration goodies installed. Yes the Conda can jump further but it's a large ship and you might not be able to land in the places a DBX can.... plus (in my own opinion) the Conda is just butt ugly. I have an AspX but I think it makes a better mining ship.

huh, I thought the ASPx was always the furthest jump range we had. the more you know.

Yes these can be beaten. Your power distributor and power plant could be smaller

it sure will.
It wont boost, but she will move.
You will also have to disable the cargo hatch and power distributor.

Well all 3 are close enough in jump ability that a few lys here and there probably doesn't make much difference. And of course that is strictly bare bones too. Might can add the rest of the exploration goodies and find different results.

Jump ranges compared over a few ships

83.46 LY, Anaconda, https://s.orbis.zone/26xk
75.18 LY, Diamondback Explorer, https://s.orbis.zone/26xi
73.64 LY, Krait Phantom, https://s.orbis.zone/26xh
71.92 LY, Asp Explorer, https://s.orbis.zone/26xg
69.76 LY, Orca, https://s.orbis.zone/26xf
64.41 LY, Krait Mk II, https://s.orbis.zone/26xl
60.22 LY, Beluga, https://s.orbis.zone/26xm

These pretty useless builds, as they are all about getting the biggest jump range out of these ships. Engineering is only about making them lighter. Jump range is with full tank

I added the Krait Mk II and Beluga as these can have SLF and have better views from their cockpits, This is also why I added the Orca, for the cockpit view.

But these are pretty useless except in extreme cases, and exploration is most of the time NOT about travelling from point A to point B the fastest. However, if you are building a Colonia Taxi or something like that, then jump range do start to matter, but for pure exploration, it is about how many system scanned, not how many systems you have skipped...

And if Beluga had got all the slots unlocked before I set out on my own journey across the galaxy to Beagle Point and beyond, I would have used that instead of the Anaconda. For the better cockpit, and that I would have been able to bring with me basically all the same stuff.

I've started taking a hard look at the Orca and that would make one fine exploration ship capable of taking a big credit rich tourist along for the ride. I think if was to ever just sell everything and go with one ship wandering the galaxy this would the the one I'd pick.

Maybe configured something like this:

Lakon spaceways should make a type 8 surveyor :p

Many many moons ago I brought up Lakon making a Type-8 (no, I'm not claiming naming rights) ... based on the Type-7 frame which I loved to fly way back in the early years before I got a T-9.

That was my suggestion for an exploration focused ship to rival the Conda in Jump range. Then came the Phantom which is now my exploration ship. I sold the Conda because of its horrible maneuvering characteristics recently to get a Vette and I'll most likely never rebuy one.

With the release of the Krait and Phantom the options for good exploration ships have increased beyond just the Andaconda , AspX and DBX as typical top picks. And your opening is similar to my quest to find a new exploration ship. Which prompted me to compile a list of every ship in the game designed as an explorer. In my quest i found that most of the time its not about having the best jump range, but having the maneuverability in supercurise, and sustainability to remain in the black. And personally i just wanted a different ship then the andaconda.

This site gives a reasonable exploration build for all current ships in the game. This for me has opened my eyes to other ships that would typically not be considered as an explorer.

But in conclusion having a ship released that is primarily sold as a dedicated exploration ship would be nice to see. a science vessel that has limited weapon and utility mounts in favor of a larger then needed FSD and enough optional internals to fit all the goodies an explorer would desire that gives the Andaconda a run for its money. But honestly the guardian FSD booster really has opened up the options for any ship to be a great explorer.

The Anaconda's jump range is already nearly broken compared with other ships because of its magical hull.

You got "broken" and "magical" in one sentence.

I can't worry about a little thing like mass in a game with FTL travel. I think gameplay is more important. The Anaconda has a clear role as a lore-related objective in this game.

My starter exploration ship was DBE with 54Ly jump range. In that time I loved that ship. Then the Chieftain was for a short time, because the shape was more important than functionality (I adore as Chief looks). My 2nd Annie jumps 78Ly. It sounds good, but it turn too slow. Next was Krait MkII with about the same jump range with my DBE. I took her on a 80KLy trip, and I loved it. Now I'm sitting in a Phantom with 69Ly jump range. I'm on my way back home from Beagle Point. This ship is my all time favorite. When exterior meets with intrinsic value.

Yeah, I've shared my thoughts on this before. A proper large explorer:
- Saud Kruger for lore and looks.
- Good cockpit visibility that rivals the Lakon types.
- Good supercruise handling for a large ship.
- Relatively small landing footprint so it's not so hard to find a landing spot.
