Explorer Warning. "Discovered By" tag is broken for large systems.

As I have said in the other thread.

Is the problem at the point of scan in the system or is it in the selling.

If it is in the point of scan, then it is not logged on the servers and FD would have no way of telling if you did or did not scan the system and so cannot retro credit you.
If this is the case, then a lot of your scans could be pointless

A big question as to whether it is worth continuing exploring whilst this bug is around ?

for some afai undertand it. All the scan data is around even after selling. Just the "first discovered" tag is missing. That would heavily point towards bug is at the selling stage....

Just to clarify. Missing discoverer tags indeed means logged, just not credited.

BUT - I have 3 out of 30+ systems not even logged at the server end. Not a good %

I'm sure I have a few but I hope when this gets fixed that the correct credit goes to the correct explorers that have traveled way the F out thar!!!

Traveled to an undiscovered star and some planets 0.17ly away. Took an hour and a half to complete. Did not get credit. Opened a ticket.

Still not so. Those objects are clearly scanned: you can open up the system view and get a full description of the objects. So there must be an entry in the database that says that you know about the object. And you definitely get the 'normal' fee for those objects. You just do not get the finders fee. I think they should be able to spot cases where it has happened, but it is quite likely to become more problematic if later explorers scan the system, especially if the code that spots first finder allocates it to that later scanner. Who knows.

The important point to me is to get as much visibility as possible to the issue, so that explorers coming home know what to look for (and can take screenshots as 'proof') and FD might spot it and act. Waiting for support may be too long, unless anyone who has hit the problem has had their ticket looked at.

TL; DR: If you explore with the bug around, you may miss out of first finder bonuses, but will still get the normal scanning fee. You may also miss out on getting your name on an object for posterity. No reason to stop exploring IMHO, but it may (or may not) make sense to delay selling the data until we know more.

Arrrghhh!!!! I just started an exploration journey last night!!! Already 1,200 ly away heading to a nebula 12k ly. Already found my first Water World -by the way, that's different than earth like planet? or same category/pay off?- and trying to do it to get my name on some stuff! I'm trailblazer at the moment with ZERO first discovered object -talk about the billions of stars I chose the taken ones..story of my life.. anyways..:

A) Should I continue my journey and come back to sell -by the way, when scanning a system I like, I even do the asteroids, just out of OCD.
B) Should I continue my journey, come back and hold on selling
C) Should I come back immediately, sell whatever I have so far and hold for fix
D) Should I come back immediately, and hold on selling?

Not intention to hijack thread, but both bugs are confusing to me..trying to make a decision based on this discussion.

Thanks for warning though!!

A or B, IMHO. The loss you get is fairly minor, though it is a loss. You might think about changing when you return, depending on what we find out. But in my case, when I return tends to be driven by one of two things:

a) I got to where I was heading
b) I have taken too much damage.

My current journey is the pilgrimage to the core. Assuming I get there without bailing out due to incompetence, I will potter around doing some mapping, and then head home. How fast I head home will probably depend on the damage. Speed wise there is a huge difference between my 'exploring mode' (target G systems, with Fs and Ks as a fallback if no G is around, scan all the lovely HMCs, WWs, E-Ls, AWs, etc) and my 'fast journey mode' (plot a 1000LY route, and jump, scoop, jump, scoop, only changing things if I have had a few non-scoopables in a row, and thus need to find one to scoop in a hurry). There are also all the shades of grey in between.

Thanks. Will continue to destination, still maybe a week away from it anyways.. and then once I get there I will be in full exploration mode as you state. Right now I am using a mix...jump, scoop, if G then check for system map for anything looking like a WW or ELPs...of none, keep going, jump, scoop, repeat.

Yeah, it will take a while. Fear is that some systems that do not log when I come back, willbe lost forever. But whatever...another risk for the explorers I guess....
