Explorers Boldly Go...

I've never been a big Trekkie but I'm watching (and loving) the original series on Amazon now. It suddenly became clear to me that this is what exploring should be like in the far reaches of the Milky Way.
I've been out for a spin around the galaxy long enough to get the rank of pathfinder so I reckon I've been bitten by the exploring bug but...
How much better would it be if after scanning countless systems you came across an unexplainable cube in open space? It could be a persistent object that, once discovered, could be visited by other curious explorers.
Or a sentient cloud that communicates when approached, or any number of other phenomena.

It seems that one thing that the Galaxy in this game is missing right now is imagination. I get, and love, that it's all about plausible technology. But who's to say that there isn't a spinning tetrahedron out that complains when you get too close?

What do you think?

I'm waiting for "warp gate" technology myself....toss a gate in Sol and another one on the edge of known space and see how fast the galaxy gets explored.
Just a thought.

Oooohh gates of raxxla sounds interesting...
a quick google threw up some stuff about eve online, which I admit is unfathomable to me.
So what's the story?

It's an old story some don't believe it anymore. Others like me think there may be more to it but those in the know (mainly the Federation of Pilots and The Dark Wheel) keep quiet. Some say it's a legendary place for all who reach Elite status, others a gateway to a distant galaxy full of riches, wealth and unfathomable danger but who knows.

If you want clues search on the internet for Elite The Dark Wheel novella. There are sites that have it readily available. It was a story that came with the original Elite you could read to get into the game.

I really hope that is in the game at some point.

Also I'm not surprised someone in Eve decided to bring that in lol.

I have always been in favor of Random Exploration Anomalies. They don't have to be alien ruins - though that would be nice - but just little quirks here and there to spice up our very long (and, lets face it, at times very tedious) explorations.
