Explorers, do you self destruct?

I want to try exploring a little bit. I was wondering what you do when you get far far out at the edge of the galaxy and you want to go home.. Do you self destruct?

Certainly no. If you self destruct, you lose all your exploration data. If you have got to the edge of the galaxy, that data will be worth several millions.

Here here...Self district is a crime against nature...all your data goes up in smoke...explore out and explore in and make mad cash. I have gone weeks without seeing civilization and I like it that way. It takes a special breed to be an explorer, easily excitable and full of wonder.

Not gonna lie I've thought about it then I just logged out took a break and flew back. While flying back I found cool new things to that remind me why I explore. If I get bored I take a break; games shouldn't be a job, if it feels like a job you are doing it wrong.

there are exploration stations in remote locations according to galnet, im guessing these might be funded by some factions that get a lot of data, they might only provide exploration comm goals, and demand food and maybe supply fuel and be basic affairs but they are an interesting idea.

When I traveled to the center of our galaxy I did not want to put another 26 hours in traveling back. So I took the quick way back and started bounty hunting / trading again.
The biggest issue with traveling that far is that you are locked to exploring. You can not combine it with other gameplay. Until we get multiple profiles...
I do have a video of my Asp being crushed by the blackhole there. How many people can say that :)

Don't black holes just overheat you like a star? If you really have this, PLEASE link it.

Yes, they just overheat you and there seems to be an invisible barrier that prevents you from actually flying into them out of supercruise.

The whole idea is you bring back the information and sell it. Why go on a suicide mission in the first place? If you are going to set off and commit to a long term goal, what is the point of self terminating when you get there?

You are an explorer of a new land. If you are not going to see it through and suicide when you get there why leave in the first place, just do it before you leave and save the time.

That's the first I've heard of such a thing. Please provide a link to this reference. I've been travelling across the galaxy for almost 5 weeks in a Sidewinder. I'm 38,000ly from Sol beyond the core. It would be nice to know if there was a station that I could stop at and get repairs. Does anyone know of any stations beyond colonized space?
