Explorers Log Cmdr MuzzUK

This thread is going to be the exploration log of CMDR MuzzUK.

So today on the 15th of July I quit Power-play, bounty hunting and doing missions for a new temp career! I decided on exploring as I traded during betas and release and I am a little bored of shooting things now. I still love Elite but want something to keep me busy and in the loop without taking a break. I have chosen exploring it's something new to keep me busy and as a former Frontier II, First Encounters and space sim veteran I didn't do on the other games but have experienced the other careers many times.

The other real lure for me was the fact I can be first to put my name on certain systems that I scan and that will remain there for as long as the game lives. My goal is to visit the North American Nebula, the Pelican Nebula and then the Sadr Region and hopefully back to Sol. Then who knows! I predict the trip will be around 5000 - 7000 light years depending what I scan and choose to take images of. I play 3-4 times a week so I can put some serious time in and with dual screens I'll be able to Facebook/eBay/Stream on the other whilst waiting to scans those really far out bodies.

I set out from EZ Aquarii today where I have my Viper and Vulture stored. I'm in my Type 6 originally bought for mining but I stripped it and fitted for exploring. It seems a good explorer not quite ASP or Cobra jump range but I'm sure it's up to the task having read guides.

After day one hull currently on 98% due to getting the hang of fuel scooping...... I have a field repair unit in case things get scary!

It's been a long week with work but managed to play even with other commitments. I had a lan event with friends last night so didn't put in as much time as I wanted but I've managed to get in a couple of sessions if Elite between playing Killing Floor 2 and Rocket League! I've now hit the 1400 ly mark and I've been busy scanning systems most of the ice worlds I've left alone but I've found plenty of metal rich and a water based planets. I found my first earth like planet which is pictured below in a system with a G class star. I'm not going to upload the system map until I'm back in Sol and I've got my first claimed name on it :-D all I can for now it has it's much hotter than Earth and can only support water based life plus the atmos was 70% nitrogen and 30% oxygen. However a very cool experience finding my first earth like and being the first in this system. Will be amazing to land on these when Frontier release planet landings. Along the way I ran into a nice system that had lots of ringed gas giants all with their own ice moons very close by. I'm taking a slight detour off my course to look at a couple of G and F star clusters in the hope of finding lots of earth and water worlds. Sorry the images aren't amazing but I'll get better at screenshots on the way.

So Wednesday and some time off work afforded me a long exploration day and I'm please to say I made it to the North America and Pelican Nebula area of space. My hull is now on 88% and holding up well but having a 2nd monitor is distracting hal. I had small accident when refueling due to watching a video on my second monitor and not paying attention but the Type 6 is holding up well my only complaint is it runs a little hot at times so ASP, Cobra or Anaconda will be future options.

I must say it was well worth the long trek and I love how as I was getting closer to the nebula region I could see the back drop of space changing. On the way I found a system with 6 water based worlds, I got excited as 3 looked like earth like but unfortunately wasn't to be but well worth the 20,000ls round trip in that system to surface scan. One of the water worlds has a massive arctic style island the rest of the planet is an ocean, I'll upload pictures when I've reduced file size but it's an unusual looking planet and with oxygen in the atmosphere. I'll upload photos when I have reduced file sizes of all my findings from Wednesday!

Two things I've always wanted to find were a volcanic/red and black planet and two suns near each so I could picture my ship between them. I found these two which has made me very happy I'll upload the nice orbital shot I had and the other with my shipped perched between two bright yellow suns! Exploration can be long dull and boring but these moments make up for it and I can't wait to put the pictures up. Anyway the pictures I do have at the moment show my approach to the North America region.

After an hour of exploring nebula systems I stopped off at a system with a nice ringed planet to take a screenshot with the nebula and my next destination the Sadr Region is in the background of that piccy. My only disappointment is having not taken up exploring early enough to make a first claim on systems actually in the nebula, but the experience and journey has now converted me to exploring and I fully intend getting in lots of first scanned systems on the trek home.

I've decided I'm going to buy a Cobra when back in Sol so I have a 2nd seat to put my feet up... the Type 6 cockpit gets a bit cramped late at night :-D

Back in populated space I've purchased myself a lovely Cobra and fitted it ready to go then. I wanted a seat for the dog and somewhere to put my feet up can't be cramped when surveying stars and bodies :-D

I have an extra 16 tonne fuel tank and a nice jump range of 25ly and opted for some heatsinks incase of problems with suns. I didn't want to invest in the ASP as it would have left me low on reserve funds. I made over 10 million from my first adventures so I'm itching to get back out there. There's nothing quite as satisfying as seeing my name against the very first Earth like I discovered after trading in the data. The next adventure is going to be black hole and neutron star hopping!

I never did go neutron star hunting that is something for the future. So I'm staying around the core for a bit and I'm going back to bounty hunting, missions and powerplay for a while with 1.4 on its way.

However I've been doing a little Earth like searching within 1000ly of Sol. Yet to find anything super interesting just lots of metal and water worlds but I did find this system with 101 bodies in it and a cool volcanic based world with metal deposits and a water atmosphere apparently. The life of an explorer can be long and dull then something cool gets thrown in to keep you going.

Armed with biscuits and coffee I've set off for some Neutron Star and black hole hunting before I settle back in the bubble for 1.4/1.5.... Going to dedicate about a week or so of game time to this then coming back to put lots of time into CQC and finally get my next combat ship. Either a FDL, Dropship MK2 or Fed Gunship!

Anyway had to come here and post as I found myself a nice earth like about 2000ly from Sol :) took a bloody long 65,000ls super cruise journey to scan it though but worth it!
