Explorers Official "Note to self"-thread

An actual 'note to self' at the end of a run:

14:34:58. Note to self: When going into a destination system, throttle down BEFORE taking the time shot.

Note to self: do not try and land on a >1g planet whilst suffering from cramp. If your leg is stretched out, you cant reach the hotas, you will bounce off the planet and lose 43% hull.

Always check the Gravity
Never try and repair thrusters while in supercruise.
Deploy Heatsink and Flight Assist off are two different bindings, remember which one is which.
Always check the Gravity
Scan the primary star before turning away from it.
Sink Rate! Sink Rate! Terrain! Terrain!
really, always check the gravity
The landing gear goes down /before/ the ship does.
If you can't scoop, check the star type
If you still can't scoop, check you turned the scoop back on

(I can't remmeber all of the others, I know I muttered a few notes to self during the trip out though :) )

Use jumponium it's not a sin.
Don't take Heatsinks.
If the cargo scoop doesn't work - the cargo hatch is turned off.
On the fifth Brown dwarf look for a scoopable star.

- If you are in front of a Neutron Star and you see a shiny Waterworld on the map, don't forget the world and rush to it as quickly as possible.
- If you are near a Y-Star and all is pretty dark outside, remember the Y-Star is still there.
- If you press for friendship drive charging and nothing happens, remember it could simply be the end of the route before pressing twice. (or look at the friendly, huge messages on the hud)
- Don't make silly schoolboy mistakes during fuel scooping. Circus Big Beagle is always happy to find new Clowns.

Take heat sinks. You'll start thinking you should have listened to the people who told you not to take heat sinks at LY 60,000, and you'll need them one jump later.

Note to self:
-Just because your thrusters are A-rated, doesn't mean that 5G planet is safe
Notes to self:
-Just because your thrusters are A-rated, doesn't mean your Anaconda can boost INTO a canyon for a screen shot and pull out in time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rn2wsii4sI
-There really is absolutely no need for a hatch breaker controller whilst exploring (who put that in there??)
-Always carry a couple spare fuel limpets
-Always carry weapons whilst exploring. You never know when those rats need whacking again! (so much fun)
-The only use for heatsinks in exploration is as comedy for Voice Attack to deploy them when someone else on comms says "heat sink" :/

Note to self:
-Don't play with your modules while in super-cruise. Getting the idea to check whether your power plant can power all your modules WILL drop you out off SC with considerable damage! Been there, done that, emptied an AFMU patching the ship up again.
Have your thrusters, FSD and life support systems at priority 1 and the rest at a lower one, because repairing anything should only be done while in normal flight.

Note to self:
-Just because your thrusters are A-rated, doesn't mean that 5G planet is safe
-There's no such thing as too much jumponium

I'm not sure about the "too much jumponium" thing.
.
As my armed Asp only has 29.2 ly jump range I stocked up on J1 x 42, J2 x 20, J3 x 10 which took HOURS of running around in the SRV, especially the Polonium - I hate that stuff, to take the direct route back from BP.
.
After taking the shortcut across the Svenno crossing and Route 33 I now have...
.
J1 x 32, J2 x 19, J3 x 8.
.
Which is still quite a lot.
.
Does anyone know what the record is for heading "south" from Sol? I'm thinking of burning up all the jumponium in a 40+ ly 'Conda going south as it's a lot closer than BP.
