Explorers scanner

I know this will never happen but it would be nice.

Currently I have the advanced discovery scanner and the detailed scanner (or whatever they're called, not near the game right now) which are both size 1 units sitting in size 2 and size 3 slots which seems a bit wasteful. If this was real I'd be down the hold with some 2x2 and a nail gun to try to cram those 2 units into a single larger slot.

So what would be great would be a single unit that combines the functionality of both scanners, maybe even enhancing it slightly, quicker scans, more distant scans, scanners mounted on a turret so you can scan while passing instead of having to have the object directly in front.

Such a beast should be stupidly expensive, hard to find and fit a size 2 or 3 slot but not be all that heavy so it'd help with the ship range.

So if I read this correctly your proposing to merge the sensor and scanner into one unit?

So you could just upgrade the sensor array to improve all scanning.

I think that makes sense to me. I don't know what they have planned for the sensor slot since I've never seen upgrades even though it has it's own slot.

Oh I think I misread part of that. I was thinking sensor not the detail scanner.

Still I think you have a good idea. They are probably size one though for small size ships but I don't see why they can't have a class 2 that combines them for larger ships.

Great idea, a scan array for a turret slot. It should be a 2in1 as you suggested, but only help with range and direction (scans from longer distance and no need to point towards the celestial). Scan speed should be enhanced if you install more scan arrays.
Lets say every array halves the scan time (just for the example). That would lead to diminishing returns the more arrays you use. This way small ships like the Hauler could still compete with an Asp for example while still being slightly less effective. Sounds like good balance..
