Explorers take note: Congratulations Humanity, we did it!

New Horizons' phone home passed! All systems nominal! WELL DONE HUMANITY!

For those who missed the NASA TV live broadcast, here's the last 5 minutes. Very emotional!

(apologies for the start of the video, I was trying to figure out if it was recording the full screen but couldn't. Didn't have time to experiment!)

They should have the first really high res, up close photos done by tomorrow. Congratulations, NASA!

Now to get Frontier to update Pluto in game...

I can't believe it's taken 10 years. Imagine what kind of things New Horizons could have done if it were built this year. I hope it continues to provide us with fascinating information as it continues its journey. Aaaand hopefully its built with a self destruct in case Thargoids.

I note that the fly by scan was done at 12.5 km/s, less than half our minimum SC speed, but about 40x our max normal speed.

Given the probe is not using SC, any Elite ship dropping out at its coordinates would be left behind.

Well, if it was less then 11.2 km/s it would still be orbiting Earth.

Given that we can drop out in Earth orbit without the blue marble running away, not to mention all those space stations, I think it is safe to assume that SC drops you into the closest relative frame. :)

Slightly off topic, but I always assumed that this was what yhe little "jump" was when your speed drops under 1 MM per second?

I noticed stations with a low orbital period always seemed to be moving until I got close enough, and then they "popped" into place - I figured that was the FSD popping me into the primary bodies refference frame?
