Explorers Told To Be Careful - Darn Gubment Wants To Control Everything

Saw this when starting things up this afternoon:

https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/57c019219657ba3a25e8855f

"What we need is sound astrocartographic data – not a bunch of amateurs traipsing all over the place and making a complete mess of the whole situation."

"I will be making deputations to various authorities to curtail these activities and leave exploration in the hands of the professionals."

"If humanity finds itself in a first-contact position, do we really want some grubby, ill-prepared spacer to be our envoy? I think not."

Ok, so are we going to have to get an Explorers Club license before venturing out into the black now??? This is an outrage! We've been out exploring and found all this neat stuff and now they want to, as they say it, "put it in the hands of professionals."

Well, I say that's a load of dingo's kidneys. [sour]

Hard to say how this will play out..
If aliens are spawning randomly across Galaxy Explorers are in real danger..because a lot of them are flying exploration dedicated loadouts and are bad in combat or even running away anyway ;)
And if they die, they lose all exploration data not only insurance, so if this a case here i expect a lot of angry people in forums soon..

As a seasoned explorer perhaps you'll be classed as one of "the professionals", Leadfoot.
The rest of us grubby spacers with our random data will be judged by you... and you'll judge that data with an iron fist (or lead foot).

Please be kind :D

I fully intend to use the "Tom Baker" method of diplomacy: "Hello! Would you care for a jelly baby?"

The thing is though on one of the past Livestreams, I believe it was Mike Brookes that said Exploration is going to become Dangerous, We've had a warning; even if people didn't see the livestream hopefully that info got out. I don't come on the forums as often as I should so no idea how well spread that info is. Since then I've been exploring with Shields (granted they are powered off most of the time... oops.) and a weapon just incase. Sure one lazer isn't going to do much, but if I happen to come across an Alien race I'd like to think First contact won't be aggressive. I can dream.

Speaking as an explorer on a long trip now. I left the bubble before Horizons launched so I have no SRV, no jumponium, and no engineer mods. Believe me I am good at running. However even in a pure exploration ship a decent explorer will mount shields and point defense at the minimum. I still had to deal with bubble NPC's and fiesty players when I left the bubble. I have A rated shields and point defense on my asp explorer so I will have enough time to high wake the hell out of any system I need to. Also Once again speaking from experience. I have spent A LOT of time in the explorer sub board. If and when aliens land and start blowing explorers up I doubt you will hear them crying very loudly. it is a different breed in the exploration sub board and there is not a whole lot of complaining there.

What got me thinking though :

[Hypothetical Scenario]
Long-Range and even local area Explorers repeatedly get attacked or even bombed back into the bubble by Federal Interceptor Forces.

Federation standing amongst Explorers reaches a 0deg Kelvin status.

BGS workers, Independents and Alliance/Empire Players alike eventually retaliate against the Federation en masse.
Federation-aligned Players - even if not involved or in strong disagreement of such Federation procedures - become the punching ball of the Galaxy, affecting BGS/Factions and PowerPlay alike.
[/Hypothetical Scenario]

Dunno, although I'm not Fed-aligned by any means, it would seem a rather drastic, uncalled for and quite extreme/unfair twist Frontier would give anything Federation with such a move.

Eh, I'd say take it with a grain of salt. I doubt any sort of 'club membership' will be required in the future given any actual authority will look at the request and laugh him out of the building.

Many Professionals start as amateurs who do what they do full time because they love it. Most advances happen because amateurs are the ones doing the heavy lifting while the "Professionals" number crunch to make their own pet theories happen.

I'd say it's just flavor text to what will happen next but do remember common sense when you go flying off into the Deep Black. There's plenty of players willing to help you out in a jam. Experiance is always the best teacher even if she's the harshest.
