Explorers, what are some good looking places to visit?

I started my long range exploring career, and aimed for the first nebula I could see in the Galaxy map, the Witch Head Nebula, with the hope to see some nice sights. But it was very unimpressive.

What beautiful locations do you suggest I should visit?

My advice would be to pick a direction of your own choosing and go for it. You may then be able to tell us of some new and beautiful locations to visit.

Be an explorer, not a tourist! ;)

I Agree.
But I can recommend Skimo Nebula and Orion Nebula. I prefer planetary nebulae

This is good for a selection of nearby Nebulae... Dark Nebulae not inlcuded

I asked a similar question before so there may be some ideas there too. I'm currently wandering around near the Great Annihilator. I missed the GA on my previous trip to Sagittarius A*, hence doing it on this 2nd trip. I think the GA is better looking actually. Seems to have a stronger visual effect, or could it just be my memory?

Why not be both? :D

very useful picture 777Driver, thank you.

Thanks for the other suggestions as well: Spirograph nebula, NGC 7822, kimo Nebula and Orion Nebula, bubble nebula, and Great Annihilator.

If you're doing the Great Annihilator, it a stop along the way to Sagittarius A* which is only 2kly further on, and probably the most well known explorer tourist destination. It is a long haul trip though, so be prepared.

Dumbbell Nebula and The Veil Nebulae are very impressive as you get closer to them. I often find the best views are just outside the nebula where it fills half the sky rather than IN the nebula itself. Inside nebulae also have different characteristics. Some are dark, some are red, some are purple, some are green... lots of variety.

Okay, thank you. So, two more to add to the list: Spirograph nebula, NGC 7822, kimo Nebula and Orion Nebula, bubble nebula, Great Annihilator, Dumbbell Nebula and The Veil Nebulae.

If you are heading to the Great annihilator from populated space - Go via 'Thors Eye' 'M67 sector' 'LKHA 115' all very nice areas. If you fancy making some cash for your trouble, roughly 5000Ly from the Annihilator you can stop off anywhere near this sector 'EESHOVVY MX-U' you can easily make a hundred million credits in a few days.

Shamless plug but has some pretty pictures so you can make your own mind up. Some are quite far out though, nothing a trip to Sag A* won't cover though. (Also I did some stats like gameplay hours spent and time taken per 1000LY travel if you want to make a rough estimate of when you'll return).

Your well cataloged adventures are an inspiration, thank you :) .

Thanks as well 777Driver and CMDR Hagglebeard. The list has gotten bigger : Spirograph nebula, NGC 7822, kimo Nebula and Orion Nebula, bubble nebula, Great Annihilator, Dumbbell Nebula, The Veil Nebulae, Merope, Thors Eye' 'M67 sector' 'LKHA 115', EESHOVVY MX-U.

By the way, have some rep :)
