Explorers, what are you hoping for from the Engineers in 2.1?

In a few weeks the 2.1 beta will begin, which will show us how the 30 engineers are going to be implemented into the game. These engineers will allow modules and weapons to be modified in ways we don't yet know completely. The only things we have been told / seen so far all relate to combat oriented stuff, BUT we have to assume that there will at least be some engineers who can do things for non combat players too.

So, what kinds of module enhancements are us explorers hoping to see?

Personally I think the big daddy of hope we all have is FSD module enhancements, something to make our ships capable of even greater jump ranges. Something non jumponium fueled but an actual boost to the regular jump range of our ships. But what else could the engineers do that would improve the game for explorers?

Let's make a list of what we all are hoping to see out of the engineers and then in a few weeks we'll see just how accurate we were! :D

I have a big hope, but this is not going to happen. :D

1 of the 30 engineers (very difficult to find) do have the knowledge to build a secret intergalactic FSD.
Consequently there will be a couple of new sectors in 2.1. (Magellanic Clouds, Globular Clusters...)

-faster scanning
-longer scan range
-lower fuel consumption for jumps
-hull repair
-faster supercruise through faster acceleration
-faster fuel scooping
Among others...

Right now, I'd like them to take their magic tools to my clipper and replace that 5A frame shift drive with a 6A

Hell I'd be happy to loose some of my compartments for that

FSD boosts for smaller class FSD modules, so that more ships become practical for exploration.

Yes, I'm hoping for the smaller FSD's to get a greater boost than the larger modules too. If FSD modules just get a flat increase across the board then that will only make the Asp and Anaconda even more chosen than they already are for exploring, which would only increase the problem we have now (ship choices).

Other things I think would be nice to have available via engineers:

- quicker FSD cooldowns, would allow faster travel overall
- combined ADS and DSS module (combine the two into one unit)
- improve fuel scoop efficiency (faster scooping time)
- enhanced ship scanners to greatly increase scan ranges

"Also, human-created POIs will also not be encountered as far out from human space as they are at the moment" , good for immersion :)

I know, let's just take all the fun and hard work OUT of the game completely!

Make everything instantly available, everything work instantly, unlimited jump range, all modules able to be fitted to all ships and the ability to modify all ships so that they are all basically awesome at everything.

Yeah, that would make this game WAY better.......

personally i don't care for longer jumps tbh i want better navigation tools and the ability to manually build a route that persists between sessions so no need to replot a route if you log off.

100% with you there.

Perhaps the ability to choose which stars to include within the route plotting, or better still, which stars NOT to include (bloody Brown Dwarf systems are the bane of my life)

Longer FSD jumps.
Increased fuel efficiency.
Increased heat resistance.
Lighter hull mass.
SRV fuel efficiency improvements.
Longer DDS range.
Faster scanning.

  • The ability to repair your hull/power plant
  • The ability to recharge your life support (so you can offline & repair it, then recharge it when it's online)
  • Combined ADS/DSS
  • "Alpha strike" shields - very low recharge rate, but high shield strength. Good both for protecting a ship during landings, and for helping to escape being jumped on returning to the bubble, but not great for prolonged combat. Basically the opposite of prismatic shields
  • Portable outposts - this has been hinted at by FD since beta. Something that needs a T-9 or Anaconda to carry, but can be set up to provide basic station services like repair and outfitting.

I only want one thing made a bit easier. And that is finding FSD boost materials. As of now it is ridiculous time consuming to find these materials.
Finding 100% boost materials should take as much time as finding the basic materials do now.
My god I've been out there for a few weeks exploring(checking the occasional planet for materials), and still haven't found the final material for 100% boost.
