Explorers! (with experience of the core)

Hey, I've just entered the edge of the core and noticed this oddity. A square of blueish purple Class A stars on the Horizon. At first I thought it was a bug, but then I looked on the starmap and saw I was on the corner of it. Very cool, has anyone else visualised this on the way in?

Anyhow, I also had a question about the blackhole systems lurking ahead. I have spotted quite a few and was wondering about safe aproaches. Is it possible to jump in on top of them, or would it be better to cruise from the nearest star? Even though it's pretty crowded in the core, I don't particularly want to spend ages in supercruise if I can avoid it... Any experienced hands at this got any advice for a core newbie?

Cheers!

The first is an issue with the stellar forge and isn't limited to the core. FD are aware.
Normal black holes are fine - just throttle back during the jump and you'll arrive 4Mm away from them (that's about 0.01LS). The big fella in the middle will be a little different - I guess same tactic but you'll be MUCH further out as it's a million times heavier!

Once the countdown starts, you can set the throttle to zero. By pressing the appropriate button (if one is bound) or moving the throttle lever of your controller to zero posiotion.

Couldn't throttle down during the 4 second countdown (spamming keyboard "X"), but I didn't die thankfully! 2.7773 solar masses dropped me off fairly close, but not in the grand scheme of distance. What does the green ring around it represent?

I think it's just like the yellowish green ring around other objects: pass inside and you'll be dropped out of SC and have to vector out. Haven't tried it, byt I'm sorta hoping it will be an event horizon around black holes :)
Also, remember to enjoy the spectacle of light bending around the black hole as you move toward it :)

It's cool eh? Not my first black hole, but definitely my first black hole system on the star map. I haven't seen anything but gravitational lensing around black holes yet! Hopefully they will add some effects delineating event horizons in the future?

Maybe they will also render black hole planets a bit better! :)

What do you want to see? There's a rock between you and the stars so you get a black gap. There's nothing lighting it up enough for it to look more interesting than a hole in the sky.

When we can fly down to the surface and turn our headlights on they should look pretty spooky though :D

I guess you're right, it just looks really wierd with all that light in the background. I guess if I turned off everything in the cabin it wouldn't look so out of place?

...edit...

And the headlights on this thing are terrible :p
