Newcomer / Intro Exploring and Hull Type

Does having reinforced for mil spec hull bulkheads make any difference to surviving the rigors (heat damage) of exploring.

Getting ready for my first serious trip........

My other gleaned knowledge is....
Biggest fuel scoop you can get
Lots of heatsink launchers
Lots of auto repair units
Smallest power plant that can keep at least one of each unit in operation
Smallest / lightest thrusters
Biggest A grade FSD

anything else I should consider?

Thanks

Stick with standard hull, milspec or any other type of reinforced hull will just add weight and drastically reduce FSD range.
I've already encountered areas where I have barely had enough range to get through, I have 34ly jump range fully laden, luckily I was able to get through a few systems by not refuelling.
I was in the Perseus Dark Sector, very sparse on stars, let alone scoopable ones. Nearly had to turn back and find another route.
I have 2 AMFU
2 Heat sink launchers
No shield
Dont go too low on power plant or power distributor, yes they save weight but they also get hotter.
There will be times when heat is a major factor, especially if you get too close to a sun while scooping and drop to normal space.
Even with HSL its touch and go sometimes.

Multiple AFMU are pretty pointless IMHO, stick in a 5B or 5A. By time it is broken or out of ammo, your PP or Canopy will have blown. If you have an urgent other need for that 5 slot, then you might want multiple smaller ones.
Get a small PP, but make sure it is A grade. Its the grade that makes the heat diff
My Power Dist is turned off, so you might as well get the smallest one that allows you to boost for the last leg home.
Heatsinks ? Never used one, I do keep on promising to take one with me, but forget. If I always carried them I could probably saved myself 5% damage. Total. Ever.

I like a DC. After 3 weeks in the black, I dont want to risk it with a rusty human docking attempt. DC has never done me serious damage since 1.2
Cargo. If you have spare slots, it has its use. You can use the slider to reduce your max jump and therefore improve fuel economy without having to go to full "economic" mode. Not massively useful, but if you find yourself in some Badlands it can help, or in the Core it can stop you using max fuel every jump.

Honestly, while taking hull armor is more a role-playing choice than everything else, I'd never, ever leave without shields. N-space flying abilities degrade a little after long exploration tours, and one simple mistake (or crazy NPC) when docking can ruin the whole trip seconds before it's over.

But maybe I'm just a cowardly lion. :)
