I got my fiance to start playing Elite: Dangerous with me a few months ago but after about a week she gave up and refused to come back. She heard about my exploits as an explorer and wanted to tag along so I bought her a copy of Elite: Dangerous. All was going well with the combat and trading to build up her credits to the point she could adequatly outfit her Diamondback Explorer. On our first trip out to explore the Helix Nebula she got frustrated, there was no way syncronize our nav computers as a wing so that we could jump easily.
We tried wing nav-lock and a few other things but it was too hard to jump the maximum distance since I was leading the wing with my A-rated Asp Explorer and she was in a C/B rated Diamondback Explorer. The nav pannel shows systems up to ~20ly away but both our jump ranges were much higher. We both play on controllers and I had not seen the targeting keybind for targeting a wing-mate's target (so is that target system too or only ships for wing combat, was unable to test at the time.)
This experience led me to think of a few suggestions and after talking it over with my fiance we decided that probably the best remedy would be an option in the galaxy map to limit route/jump calculations based on either a set number of light years or an option to limit route/jump calculations to the lowest jump capability of the wing. Either of these options could be located alongside the current fastest/ecconomical/cargo limit options when calculating your route.
TLDR: A change to the galaxy map to set maximum jump distance for route calculation either manually or by copying the route of a wing-mate would dramatically improve the quality of life for players who explore in wings.
