Exploring ! How do you find Stations ?

Jumped into a system last night, identified the star, used my d scanner, and found a ton of other planetary bodies. I scanned them all, got up nice and close hoping to find a station.

I was pretty sure there should have been one somewhere because the system claims it was independent and the system seemed really busy.

So my question is, when you go to an undiscovered system, how do you find the space stations ?

I thought stations always appeared on the system maps?

I would follow the traffics direction if it is a busy system as they are likely to be heading to a station? I've used this before to discover stuff.

I suppose it would upset the "i don't want to work for my info" crowd if I said wouldn't it be nice if stations had to be discovered too ? :D

I'm all in for stations you have to find: Smuggler outposts, secret research or military outposts...

But I can't hear that silly argument of having to "work" for something anymore. I don't consider this for example as fun, nor as real work but just as a very annoying thing. There is no game to beat just annoying flying from A to B in the hope to be lucky next time.

Ahh, you are stalking me, I am honoured :D
You forget I am allowed to disagree with you :)

I think the Galactic Map isn't always accurate. Even if the rest of the bodies in a system are Unknown any station names will always be shown, if they're not showing they aren't there. Medusa is shown as an Alliance system with a Refinery economy, but there is nothing there! I had to pay for an emergency refuel because I got caught by that.

Well this might be the case, and I really don't mind if it is. I just want to know how ? I'm hoping some of you have come across it and figured it out.

maybe I need a better scanner to pick up stations ? the point is I don't know.

Either that system, and apologies for forgetting where I was with like 4 gas giants with about 5 moons each, had no stations, or I just couldn't find them.

Medusa doesn't show as having a station, how did you get caught short ?

They had this sort of thing in the X series.

Occasionally you would see a NPC flying off in a direction which you thought was empty space, only to follow it to discover it was docking in a pirate base which you had missed in your earlier scans of the sector.

I certainly hope that all stations are not pre-discovered/mapped, especially in anarchy or opposing faction areas. Those hermit stations prefer the lights dimmed and transmit a never ending KennyG sax to ward off casual travellers.

AFAIAA all stations are listed in your Nav panel on arrival at a system.

There are some systems that have no Stations or Outposts maybe you just found yourself in one of those, I found a few close together with none and ran out of fuel because of it :(

I've had this same issue and I've not resolved it... yet.

I checked the trade routes on the galaxy map and saw a system that showed flow of commodities in and out. When jumped there, the only astronomical body (unknown) was the only thing showing in the nav list on the left. The System map showed the same. i.e. nothing but the star.

I used the (basic) discovery scanner which then showed up about 4 new (unknown) bodies. SC'd to each to scan and checked for stations, but none found.

Then flew around for a bit to try and spot other potential bodies. When in SC, you can see these as moving slowly in relation to the stars which stay static. (If you happen to be flying straight towards one of these, you won't see them move in the same way.)

Once I spotted a few, I SC'd towards them. When I was a bit closer I used the discovery scanner again, which then listed them as "unknown" in the nav list. Went to each to check for stations, but no luck.

Flying round looking for these slow moving dots is a bit needle-in-haystack, so I'm hoping that upgrading my discovery scanner may increase the range.

Maybe there isn't one?

Most system's (out on/beyond the fringe) won't have one will they :)

Well in terms of our playable area, I'm about mid way down the pill

Also the system claimed it was independent, and was quite busy

Guys, currently(this may change) ALL stations are shown in system view on the galaxy map, whether you've been there or not. If in system view you don't see a station, there isn't one :)

ahh,

ok ty, only problem is I play with the dk2. system map puts my face right next to the star, apart from the sunburn, headtracking doesn't currently work on the system map for the rift.

could you clarify something for me though. the basic d scanner only gives you like 500 ls range I believe. So do things show up on the system map even if you haven't scanned/ discovered them yet ?

The system I went to said it was Federation - Agricultural in the galaxy map, but no stations listed either in the system map or in the nav panel when I arrived there.

Bear in mind also that there will likely be a huge number of systems that have multiple surface starports, which of course we don't have access to at this time.

How do you know this?

because there has never been a mention of station discovery by anyone on these forums in the last 2 months, and because I have visited dozens of systems with the advanced D-Scanner and never discovered any new stations around the planets and moons I had to go to individually (to scan them close up).:)
