[exploring]out of fuel at dwarf stars.

I'm currently travelling to Seg A. The only stars I encounter when I'm out of fuel are red dwarfs. How can I make sure that only encounter fuel scoopable stars? I already tried selecting only the FOG KABAM stars in the galaxy map but this doesn't seem to help. It's really frustrating to re-route your course just to scoop fuel from a distant star and then plot a new route to the middle of the MG.

No way of doing what you want. FOG KABAM is only there to show what stars can be scooped, that's all.

Ok, so if you are correct there's no way to avoid certain stars that you blink off the galaxy map while you plot your route?

Sometimes for long haul jumping you have to switch to economical jumps, or even manually plot a course, but for exploration that's not a huge hardship really. Roughly your fuel use relates to the square of the distance per jump, e.g. if you jump 10Ly you'll use 1/4 of the fuel of 20Ly, or to put it another way if you jump half the jump size you'll get twice as far. :)

When I went out into more remote regions of space, I had two rules I followed which helped me never run out of fuel.

1) Use economical routes when plotting a course.
2) Scoop at every scoopable star, even if the tank is virtually full.

This, well number 2 at least, Number one drives me mad with all those extra jumps. I tend to go overboard with Fuel Tanks and fill up completely when I get half empty even though it lowers my jump range to carry the extra. I can generally go about 600 Ly without refueling but refuel every 300Ly or so just to be safe. I then plot next route generally to an F or G type star as these are where most of the earth like planets are.

I always carry extra fuel tanks as well. Don't worry so much about individual jump range. Endurance is important when you hit various brown dwarf fields. A jump range of 25 - 30 will serve you well. The only 2 reasons you would need a jump range well above 30 is if you are doing speed runs or plan on heading out to the edges of the galaxy
