exploring still sucks.

I started playing about 2yrs ago . mostly done a bit of everything. played mostly everyday! my previous exploration was only 3000lys and got so tedious I returned to the bubble, before engineers were introduced.
decided to do the grind for Palin about a month ago. so of I jumped into the black. what did I find in the countless systems I have explored. nothing of interest, just the same as my previous experience.
while exploring, do I still play everyday! NO. (lesson FDEVS) spice things up! if you want to keep us interested then exploration needs some LOVE!
playtime now about once a week, because it is so (redacted) boring. I cant be bothered, doing jump scans etc. so mundane.

seeing as I have had no sightings of the alien ships, how about sending some after me. 3mths+ since they were added. paid for and as far as I can tell, I got nothing for my cash!

not concerning beta's. tested only, not played beta for more than a hr.

I think of exploring as a bit like being an art critic.

There is absolutely nothing to see, unless you are willing to look for it, and that is the reward in and of itself.

looking for things don't work. same old stuff. nothing new! nothing nothing. I quite regularly drop to 2km above surface and scout for anything interesting. because scanner sucks and cant find nothing outside the bubble apart from asteroids, black holes, planets, moons, stars and materials,
there is a lot of scope to move forward in exploration. yet in 2 yrs nothing has been added. tsh forgot about horizons.

Horizons counts as exploration content. Initial live build didn't have landable planets.

Fair point but in terms of space exploration it consists of jumping scanning jumping scanning oh look pretty planet jump scan jump scan oh look wouldn't it be great if we could visit asteroids and comets jump scan.

Yea thats another stupid thing in this game the fact you need a space sextant to find something on a planet or circle it for god knows how long looking out the window to see if you spot anything.

I suppose my viewpoint is a bit different. I like finding out what the stellar forge has come up with, and sometimes giggling at things that seem impossible (to me) and left scratching my head at the fact they are real data.

That moment when 5000ly is suddenly a grind according to a portion of the community. Faster than any other grind in the game at least. Only head out when you really have an itch for exploration. It helps to be in a mindset all about just going out there.

I have only a 20ly jump and I use economical route planning.. which is a grind:( because I don't like to miss anything:)

FDEV know how to do it, sometimes they forget they are the farther's of Elite.

Then we get wheel of fortune fruit machine mechanics and 3rd person arcade shooter views.

Look at Helion 1stp survival space game. It already got a lot of superb game mechanics, and it's only a early access game.

Exploration in ED could be interesting and evolving deep gameplay, however to make you need to understand what you have to build the foundation of your game with.

It's obvious that FDEV deviated from that at some point during the game design phase.

There are so many excellent suggestion from the community, FDEV could just read it and use it or some of it to make exploration more interesting.

Have you considered it might not be FDev that are at fault here? :)

I posted to another commander recently ... "you're not employed to scan every single planet", increase your jump range, bind a key (near your jump key) for the system map. Set a 1000 Ly destination, jump, ADS, fuel scoop, line up for the next jump, hit jump and immediately hit your system map key. You'll have a few seconds to look at the map, if it looks like an earth like, water world, ammonia world or just something interesting hit the system map key and jump key to cancel the jump.

You should be able to rattle off 5,000 Ly in a few hours, you'll find some interesting places, get a few first discovered by and not spend days looking at rocky worlds with little to distinguish them.

Some people are completist and enjoy scanning everything, you appear to hate doing this but are doing it anyway. Really finding that ringed Earth like twin planet wouldn't feel like an achievement if ever other system had one.

Sometimes I think these threads conflate two different issues:

Scale and Mechanics

Scale should be left as is...
I have been to Beagle Point and back. The emptiness was literally tangible out there, looking 65 kylies back homewards.
The galaxy is huge and empty and this game demonstrates that fact 1:1
If the galaxy map was displayed 100 LY per meter, the entire map would still be over 1km across. The fact that the bubble pales into insignificance is an important aspect of this game.

The mechanics, however are completely meh... Inceptionesque Bwoooooooooooohh! followed by a list of planets appearing and then jump.
DSS is a missed opportunity, just being another scan it had a chance at being far more in depth.

Im currently at Beagle Point, my second trip there. Still havent found any sucking in exploration.

Doesn't the Stella Forge output all of the compositional data for each planet? I'm presuming that this data is what the current DSS reads from... It would be nice if this was significantly expanded to give more information on tectonics, mineral 'hotspots' etc.

There is also the matter of missing elements like radiation that is simply ignored at present. Jupiter puts out a lot of lethal radiation for example (just look at some of the JUNO videos on YouTube). This all needs to be built into Stellar Forge.

Instead what do we get? Another tweak of the combat mechanics and RNGineers [blah]

Personally, disappointed.
