Exploring undiscovered planets

Greetings commanders!
I am long time ED player and now returning to experience odyssey and so far I'm really enjoying it.

I have a question that keeps popping up on my mind that i would hope my fellow space explorers could clarify;

Is it still possible to find(and add your name) undiscovered planets in 2021? Do we know roughly how much of the galaxy has been discovered so far? I heard 0.04 on google but not sure if that is a valid number whatsoever.

thanks

Yes, somewhere in the area of 0.04% to 0.05% of the galaxy is estimated to be discovered so far. There's still plenty to discover out there. It's just that as time passes, you have to travel slightly further before you start reliably finding undiscovered systems/bodies. The core and further reaches of the galaxy are still largely unexplored.

Until you get to the very furthest reaches. The very edges (horizontally) and the top and bottom in a narrow circle directly above and below Sgr A* are fairly well trodden now.

Yeah that Allitnil got everywhere! I still bump into his name regularly on the edges!

Him and StupidHippy.

Second time I went round the edge I crossed my own beam a few times, so I can but hope that some people have done it enough to curse me :D

Hah, I've done it enough to curse myself!

There I was passing through and near this nebula and spotted a black hole and thought to myself "I wonder if anyone's checked that out yet", so I go all the way there and yes someone had, it was me! I should have maybe noticed the system map was available when I plotted it but sometimes these things slip past you!
