Exploring unknown permits!

Pre-amble story first :)

So there I was mooching around Pleiades when I spot a nice pretty object in the sky, and decide to head that way. 500ly later I realise it's not getting any bigger, and embarassingly it turns out to be another galaxy

From that point I pick a lovely red nebula (I christened it red spike) and went there. This was the california nebula, really pretty from the inside! I stumbled across the Alliance system there completely by accident, landed on their outpost, and the planet has a super red glow. Well worth a visit.

Anyway, after that interesting diversion, the witch head nebula beckoned, not quite so interesting I thought. And then naturally the orion nebula, and a huge streak of stars packed together very tightly. More pretty, but red spike has them all beat! :D

Now we all know about the col 70 sector permit, and it is a huge one to have to go around. Thargoids no doubt!

However (and here's the question) ....

Once you're in the orion nebula, the horsehead is just nearby and that's a place I just have to visit.

But oh no it's permit locked! Surely not, but it's true.

Has the horsehead always been permit locked? And is there any known way to get such a permit? Was disappointing not to make it inside that one after the little nebula trips I was clocking up! Turned around back to Pleiades with a huge detour around col 70

So, is the horsehead really off limits?

Technically it's not a full-on galaxy, but rather a dwarf galaxy or satellite galaxy. It's called the Large Magellanic Cloud. Little known fact as an aside, that's where the Flood originally came from.

Horsehead should be reachable unless it's been locked recently. Try approaching from the "southwest" through Col 69 sector, at around 310 ly below the plane.

Try my map (link in sig) if you're on PC.

Thanks for the responses! This was the pretty object I was first heading towards, not sure that's the cloud is it? I have no idea! I think it's in the direction of Andromeda (somebody told me, which is a spiral and is a little to the left of the pretty one).

Anyway, horsehead was definitely permit locked. Selecting the systems in horsehead sector said unknown permit required, so maybe it has changed and something weird is going on around there. Obviously did not try every system, but I did select quite a few trying to find a way in.

Wonder what the mystery is! I shall break out my mystery van and head out there again soon :D

Actually that bright smudge in the center of the screen is in fact the Andromeda Galaxy (~2.5 million light-years from the Milky Way, about twice the size and contains close to 1 trillion stars). As for the smaller one off to the left, that's the Triangulum Galaxy (~3 million light-years from the Milky Way, about 40% its size and contains only 40 billion stars).
