Exploring with Friends - possible solution?

We know exploring with friends can be difficult, primarily because everyone has different jump ranges.

Possible fix:

Adding an option to the "wing" panel

1. Friends wing together
2. the one with lowest jump range would plot route - share
3. others in wing would then accept plotted route to their Galaxy map

Now all have exactly same route plotted on their galaxy map, irregardless of their jump range

explore and jump together, instead of saying meet you at xyz

interesting... I'd prefer to go in entirely the opposite direction though - not just being argumentative, hear me out :p

the whole point of exploration is to discover and chart new stuff, so rather than just having two to four ships jump to the same stars in formation, which is a pretty inefficient way of mapping, allow winged exploration ships to share exploration data as long as they are within "x" distance of each other (i dunno, 50 ly or something) - hell even make a new utility mount "interstellar relay" or something that they have to fit in order to make it work.

The lowest jump range ship can follow the most direct path to the next waypoint- the baseline if you will.
The others can jump around at their own discretion as long as they maintain the data link.
The ship that scans a particular body is the only one that would get a first discovered tag (and bonus), however all ships would share an exploration payout (perhaps only 75% to allow for the increased rate of scanning that can be achieved)

This still encourages exploring together, staying in communication, but also allows a bit of individuality rather than just follow the leader

I guess I just like the idea of a squadron of ships trawling a region of stars together - might be a good idea for wing exploration or SAR missions (hint hint) i.e. you jsut get given a region of space/type of star etc and actively have to go out and search for an escape pod or data relay or something rather than just going to system a and waiting for the right USS to spawn

I have to agree with Wedgetail on this one.

Ya you never want to jump to the same system as your friends. One of you will not get the first discovered reward.

Understand ... anything that allows exploring together. :)

Jumping together only one gets initial discovery but any bodies within system scanned is up to whoever gets there first ... LOL

I was just trying to make as simple as possible .... our group don't care too much about who gets what ... we just want to have fun traveling together.

Thanks

Well, one thing you can do is to each look in the 'Locations' screen. The Player with the lowest jump range should see "Excess Mass" against systems out of their range, while the others in the Wing should see "Exceeds Wing Range" for the corresponding systems. However, this would not work in the Galaxy Map.

Unless I have a specific destination I will 'meander' explore. What this is that I will scroll down the 'Locations' list until I come across and 'Unknown', and then jump to it.
